Question about Western Digital WD Passport 250GB Portable Drive 250 GB Hard Drive
Try other usb port, or other computer and see whether the hdd is detected. If still not, try to go to device manager ( http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000833.htm ), and then assign a drive letter to the hdd. After that, try to access it from Computer, if not able to access it, format it (use quick format) and then use this file recovery program called asoftech data recovery to recover your files.

If it shows up in 'My Computer' as a drive letter(like E: drive) but you can't access it,I would first try to recover the data on it with a data recovery program to avoid losing them.
Try this one called Tenorshare Data Recovery. It can recover data after deeply scanning your external hard drive to look for lost data due to drives crash.
You can get it here: http://www.any-data-recovery.com
If the hard drive can't be detected, you can try this way.Put the hdd in a zip-lock bag and put it in the freezer for 2-3 hours. Then while it's still cold plug it into the computer and you may be able to view it in 'my computer'.
If it fails, you will have to go to a recovery office but let's hope not because it will cost you a lot of money and whether they can recover the data or not is not guarantee.

You can try data recovery software called "Kernel for FAT and NTFS". Data recovery software can recognize the drive, u can download it from http://www.windowsdatarecovery.com
1. Install the software on ur computer.
2. Connect the Hard Disk to computer.
3. select the drive(usually G or H for external drive) , click Start. Now the scanning process will start to search the deleted files. After a while you will then get a list of recoverable files.
4. Press Recover to perform full recovery.
