Hi Ann,

Laptops have options to prolong battery life that can sometimes be a bit tedious. No problem, to change the settings though.
Do this:

  • Click START
  • Click Control Panel
  • Double-Click Display
  • Click on the Screen Saver Tab
  • In the Monitor Power box Click the Power Button
  • Under the Power Schemes Tab, in the Power Schemes box, Click the Power Schemes drop down menu.
  • Click on 'Always On'
  • At the bottom, Click on OK
  • At the bottom, Click on OK
Keep in mind, after doing this, the conservation of battery power is no longer automatic. It's just as easy to change back, if necessary.

Very Constant Noisy Fan

If this is a recent change in PC behavior, then it may be over-heating.

When was the last time you blew the dust out of the case ? This must be done 1 or 2 times a year, (more if you live in a dusty environment -- desert.)

Get a can of compressed-air, disconnect all cords, take the side off, take the tower outside, (you do NOT want to do this indoors -- trust me,) and blow it out. If there is a 'shield' on the heatsink, remove it so you can blow out between the fins there. Don't forget to blow out the Power Supply.

Tip : When the can gets cold, then the air will begin to freeze at the nozzle and it will become less effective....so STOP using it when it's cold -- you are just wasting the propellant. It is best to use TWO cans, one at a time....switching when one of them gets cold.

Packard Bell oneTwo L5351

hmmm.. seems had a problem directly on the hardware side of your computer. my only and good recommendations to you is, first, check if your packard bell desktop has or still have a Warranty, if its on warranty, you can go to the service center to check the hardware of your PC. Second, if your computer is Out of Warranty you can check it by your self, open your CPU Drive, clean the dust inside the Hardware then check everything if all the wire's are still INTACT to each other.

Blank Computer Screen

First I will suggest you to Return BIOS settings to their default levels. An overclocked or misconfigured BIOS can cause all sorts of random issues, including Black screen
After that restart your computer in safe mode by press and hold F8 keys until you get Advanced Options menu screen.Use the arrow key to highlight Safe Mode, and then press Enter, your computer will boot automatically to safe mode
Inn safe mode Update your graphic drivers from your system manufacturer site
If this is helpless then simply get Reginout that cleans your computer of temp files, history and cookies. Its also used to fix any registry errors.
Hopefully it will help you

I want to factory restore my dell dimensions 3000.

There are three methods available.

1) Use Windows XP System Restore.

If you cannot access Windows XP, the following two methods are available.

2) Use the Dell Operating System CD, and the Dell Resource CD.

If you do not have these restoration CD's,

3) Use Dell Restore by Symantec

With this method all personal files you have, and any programs, or applications you have installed, or downloaded, will be GONE.

(Personal Files: My Pictures, My Music, My Videos, and personal files you have created)

Turn the computer on. AS SOON as you see -
www.dell.com, appear in the blue bar, Press -
the CTRL key, AND the F11 key -
AT THE SAME TIME. (Not shouting)

If you do not press both keys at the same time, and in time, let the computer load. It may stop at a blank screen, with a blinking cursor.

It's okay. Now press the CTRL key, ALT key, and DELete key at the same time.
This will restart your computer. Try again when you see the www.dell.com logo.

If upon pressing the CTRL key, and F11 key, you go to the next screen, left-click on - Restore

On the next screen click on - Confirm

Takes about 6 to 10 minutes.
After the restoration has stopped, click on Finish.
Your computer will now reboot.

Should you need help with Windows XP System Restore, or using your Dell restoration disks, please state so in a comment.

My srceen goes Blank

Hi,

first try booting the laptop and pressing the Fn key with the numerical ( numbered key ) that has a picture of 2 screens on it. This is for booting to an external monitor. you could also try adding an external ( pc monitor ) this will eliminate any motherboard Faults.

Secondly, the graphics chip driver may be corrupt or not installed correctly. if you have a restore cd, you could try booting the laptop, with the cd in the drive.

you can then try, to see if the settings in the bios are all correct, by booting/starting the laptop and pressing esc or F2 or delete immediately as the laptop starts. ** Be-Careful** what you adjust.
My suggestion is to look for. ** default settings tab** or load setup defaults.

these are the obvious things to try, before assuming that you have a faulty graphics chip or motherboard fault.

Blank screen on my laptop but power button is on.

Depending on what kind of laptop you have, your button may look different. Look at the Function keys (all those keys up at the top that have F's in front of them) and see if there is another colored symbol on any of them. You should find a colored symbol that looks like a rectangular monitor.

Press another key toward the bottom of your keyboard that probably says "Fn" or some other kind of "Function" key - not Alt, Ctrl, or Shift. Hold that Fn key down while you press the first key you found that looks like a monitor. That will change your laptop video output mode between several different modes like: laptop LCD panel only; LCD panel and external monitor; and external monitor only.

The purpose of this is if you wanted to plug another monitor into the back of your laptop, or a projector for a meeting or presentation, etc.

When i try an open system restore the window appears blank, an my laptop doesnt no what the internet is when i try an open internet explorer it asks me what program to use, all this started after i ran i...

You might want to print this out:

1) Turn off your laptop.

2) Press the "on" button on your laptop, and *immediately* start tapping on the F8 key on your keyboard. This should bring up a black screen with white text on it.

NOTE: You may get a message saying "keyboard error, press F1 to continue." If this happens, press F1 and then keep tapping on the F8 key.

NOTE: If the Windows screen comes up, turn off the computer and try again until you get to a black screen with different startup choices on it.

3) Once you have reached the startup choices screen, use the arrow keys on your keyboard to highlight "safe mode." Press the Enter key. If you are asked to choose your operating system, just press Enter again.

This will start a lot of text scrolling on your screen. Just be patient. When it stops, you will see a login screen. Log in under your name (sometimes this is "owner").

4) You will now be logged in to you computer in Safe Mode. A message will pop up asking if you want to use Safe Mode or System Restore. Click on System Restore.

5) You should now have the option to undo your last System Restore. Choose this option and follow the instructions on your screen to get back to where you were before you tried to restore your laptop.

If you need further help after that, please reply with the name and model number of your laptop. For example, "Dell Inspiron 530," or "Compaq Presario 3000." Also let me know what version of Windows you are using, for example "XP" or "Vista."

I have a packard bell EASYNOTE MZ36 the screen has gone blank, not even a faint image on the screen. but works fine on a external monitor?

First try and press and hold the FN key and then press the F4 key. The screen will disappear from the external monitor and should appear on Laptop. Try a few times and see what happens. This is a common problem and usually can either be a keying error or the back light operation of LCD screen needs replacement. Cost can vary from $70 - $150 AU. Go to ebay and find if there is a replacement for you. See how you go and let me know!
