Question about Northgate STAC2217L (Bundle) PC Desktop

Files missing On my system tools, all that will come up is 1)security center and 2)Internet Exp. I have an HP printer and have called HP and also Northgate techs and neither were able to help after having spent hours on the phone with them. HP said it was windows files that were missing and Microsoft said it was HP files that were missing. Does the Recover XP disk that came with my Northgate computer STAC2217L have the option to repair without reformatting, or just to reformat? I have always had HP's before and loved their repair/recovery disks, but have been told that Northgate's is not as easy to use. Are there any codes I would need other than the XP Product Key and the systems OEM numbers in order to use the recovery disk or the repair part of it? I have been able to use this machine even tho it doesn't let me do all I want to on it, so any help will be greatly appreciated.

    I have the recovery disk from XP which say on the disk support is provided by Northgate Innovaions, Inc.



    I have the users manual for Microsoft Win XP which came with the computer I also have the booket on the motherboard that came with it .

    It is the STAC2217L Northgate bundle purchased from Staples (item # 554413) on their Black Friday Sale on 11-28-03. It says Model I - 1 (assembled from tested components.)



    It has the windows XP home ed. with service pack 2 .

Bring up a command prompt and in the window type SFC /scannow
When that is done it will tell you if there are files missing and whether it was able to repair them.

I just Googled modem drivers and came up with several. Among them were driverforum.com and driverguide.com where people will send you files you need. If your machine has the same kind of modem that mine came out with it is a HSP56 MR by PCtel.Inc. I use Belarc Adivsor to tell me what all the files are on my computer and it said that was my modem. If I can find my modem drivers i would be willing to email them to you. I have no paper manual except the Motherboard one that came with this machine. It is a SYNTAX S651M www.syntaxusa.com .

1. System restart/looping issues - In addition to steps discussed earlier, we can resolve the issue by deleting the hpfax.ini, and the hpfax_print.gpd from C:\WINDOWS\System32\spool\drivers\W32X86\3\Old\1, restart the PC, and attempt an install. If the issue is not resolved we would need log files for this issue.
2. PS C4700 – Freezing on HP Logo while wireless is enabled Issue.
The default wireless setting would be Security type – WPA2 Personal & WPA Algorithms – AES
Change it to Security type – WPA Personal & WPA Algorithms – TPIK.

Frequently, this behavior is caused by security changes in Windows XP SP2. To determine why the pages do not display correctly, use the following methods in the order that they are presented.
Turn off the pop-up blocker
Internet Explorer SP2 includes the ability to block pop-up windows. This new feature may block some Web pages. To turn off the Pop-Up Blocker, follow these steps: 1. On the Tools menu in Internet Explorer, click Internet Options, and then click the General tab.
2. Click the Privacy tab.
3. In the Pop-Up Blocker section, click to clear the Block pop-ups check box.
4. Click Apply.
5. Click OK.
Delete the contents of the Temporary Internet Files folder
If a copy of the Web page is in the Temporary Internet Files folder, the page may not display as expected. To resolve this problem, you must delete the contents of this folder. That usually indicates some settings in your Internet Options have been changed in your security settings, and it is blocking the installation of Active X add ins for your Browser.

With your Internet Explorer open, click on TOOLS > Internet Options.
Click on the Tab Security.
The Icon for Internet should be highlighted.
Look for a button " Restore Defaults" and click on it. Then click on the Apply Button.
Then click on the Tab General and Click on the Delete button in the center of the screen.
Delete the Cookies and Temporary Internet Files

Close Internet Explorer, and reopen it.

Try your games again and see if it prompts you to install the Active X add ins it needs to run the games.

HP Printer software is designed to detect only MS Outlook and Outlook Express If you are using the Scan to Email Option from HP Solution Center or HP Director. These are the only 2 mail client that you can Scan document or Pictures to Email ( as attachment while scanning )

maybe when you were installing the printer drivers, some failure and some files could not be copied, so the calls the missing files, but do not try to fix it that way,

1 uninstall the drivers (control panel, uninstall programs, and take away everything you have to do with hp)

2 download drivers hp's official website, here is the link, you just have to choose your operating system and download the complete driver.

Security settings wont allow any downloads


Try these steps and see if its gonna fix the issue:

1.Open Internet Explorer

2.At the top of the screen, click on Tools.

3.In the Tools menu, click on Internet Options...

4.If you do not see the tools menu hold down the alt and t key on the keyboard.

5.In the Internet Options window, find the Temporary Internet Files section. Click on Delete.

Delete Browsing History window will appear. Click on the Delete Files... button.

If this did not do it, reset your internet explorer. To do this,

  1. Go back into the internet options and click on the advanced tab
  2. Click on the Reset button at the bottom
  3. Restart your internet explorer and see if it will work.

Try these two methods for changing the security settings (if neither work go to Method #3):

Method #1
1. To lower the security setting in Internet Explorer:
2. In the browser's Tools menu, select Internet Options.
3. In the Internet Options dialog box, click the Security tab.
4. In the "Select a Web content zone" control, click the Internet icon.
5. In the "Security level for this zone" area, reset security to Medium.
6. Click OK.

1. Select Tools Menu from Tool Bar
2. Select Internet Options
3. Select Security tab
4. Select Custom Level button
5. Scroll down to Downloads
6. Under File Downloads - If the File Downloads is not disabled you will not be able to download files.
To enable file downloads check the enable option.
