Question about Jenn-Air Grilling

Open Question

I have Jenn-air BBQ, Model 720-0141-LP. None of the burners come on. Plenty of propane. Pilot works on one. Took it apart and found no evidence of blockage. Could it be the regulator?

SOURCE: no gas getting to bbq

I switched to the new style 20# tank with the new turn-on knob.  I couldn't get enough gas pressure to the BBQ burners for all three burners to light or to keep a strong flame on even one burner.  The new style tanks have a safety valve on the inside of the tank that shuts the gas off if you turn the knob on too fast because the safety valve thinks there is leak.  Shut everything off and then try turning the knob on real slow, especially at first, before turning it all the way on.  If that doesn't work (it didn't for me), then replace the large plastic connection valve knob (female end) that attaches the regulator to the tank.  Mine was for the old style tank and was black (low pressure).  I went to a propane company and had them replace it with a green knob (higher pressure).  Took it home and WALA!  Everything works fine now.  But it was very frustrating trying to figure why I couldn't get any gas to the burners after buying a brand new tank.  I hope this helps solve your problems.

SOURCE: jenn air propane grill conversion

It is inconceivable to me that large manufacturers like Jenn-Air and Nexgrill can jointly make and sell an expensive grill and then completely abandon the consumer. I purchased an Jenn-Air 740-0142 LPG and like so many wanted to convert to nautural gas which requires a larger gas orifice. I spent a month on the internet and phone calling Jenn-Air and finally Nexgrill who actually manufactured the unit in China. The Jenn-Air and Nexgrill serial numbers are the same. the 740 prefix is LPG and the 750 prefix is natural gas. After three calls to Nexgrill I found a manager who actually acknowledged making Jenn-Air but declined selling me parts for it as I believe they have product liability concerns. I call back as a Nexgrill owner and finally ordered natural gas orifices at $10.00 each. The shipment never showed up. Calling back again I was told that they really didnt really have any orifices in stock but could sell me the entire replacement gas valve for $28.00 which I purchased. The valves actually arrived on the shipping receipt was from The Grill Services in City of Industry 909-718-6128 www.grillservices.com . Part number 750-0141/142/593/594.

Forget about pirates in Somalia... we have them right here. Shame on you Jenn-Air and Nextgrill.

Can this grill be also used on propane? If so you might be running it too hot on natural gas, check to see if the control knobs have two different set of markings.

Model 720-0164 bbq low propane to burners now no propane to burners,,,new bottle.. how do i trouble shoot to see if it is the regulator

What you have is a classic symptom of a bad regulator. If no gas is going fromt he new tank to the burners, you can bet it is the regulator. No real way to test it once it stops working all together. As it is going bad, the flames on the burners will get smaller as each buner lights.

The pilot on my Procom QL300TYLA will not light. It appears that no propane is getting to the pilot. I tried lighting the pilot and burner with a BBQ lighter but nothing. No propane getting to the unit....

sounds like you have a blocked pilot injector. normally part of the pilot head. if you can remove it , blow it out with compressed air but it must be removed from the pilot head. commonly known as a Pilot restrictor,Pilot spud or Pilot injector

Burners will not light

Check to see if the bottle is full or empty ? could be a number of problems . Bottle empty ? bottle wasn't purged properly or you may have spiders that have nested in the propane lines which is a common problem.

My Jenn air BBQ grill will not heat up all of

Couple things could be happening here. If you do exchanges, have you used more than one different propane tank since you've had this issue? This eliminates the possibility of a low tank pressure and a faulty tank connection. Next you need to look over the burners and the propane flow tubing. Spiders LOVE the sweet smell of propane and make their webbing inside the piping that get's the propane up to the burners. At your flow valves/On/Off knobs you'll notice that the propane shoots from the valves into a pipe with an air gap to gain oxygen. Look in there to see if there's any webs. Also should be a gap were that piping meets the burners, so you need to look there too. Depending on the age of the grill, you need to look the burners over. Corrosion & rust can cause the flame/propane holes in the burners themselves to cake up and close up causing much less flaming/heating opportunity. Also depending how much you've used it, it could be grease/dripping/sauce caked up over them too so they may need to be detailed/cleaned. It's not a pretty job, but grill maintenance that should be done every spring. When the burners get caked is when it's really fun and you need to remove them and clean out the holes with toothpicks. Jenn Air makes quality products, but being a BBQ and outdoors, it's just as vulnerable as any other to elemental and use issues. One last thing to check, some regulators (the disk shaped part right where the hose attaches to the tank) have another air mixture intake there with a screen on one side. Make sure there's no water in it and the opening is face down if you have one like that. Otherwise it's restricting the flow of the propane. I haven't seen one of these in a while, but they're still out there so check it too.
