I canat see which lead from the battery charger is positive or which one is negative because the clips on the ends of the leads(which would be colored red for positive, etc.) are missing. Can you tell me or is there a method that I can use to find out? I have an old model. It's labelled as follows:" HV CHARGE 2AMP MODEL NO. 2 08-00200002" INPUT 60 CY. .5 AMP 117 VAC OUTPUT 6-12 VD(?) 2AMP (IT'S 6V/12V)

The clips usually have a plus or minus cut or embossed into them. Other than that, the easiest way to tell is with a volt meter. There are lots of cheap ones (around $10) available. Good luck, Al K

Had to jump car cuz battery was and dead and tmsp is all lines how do i reset it

to jump start a car the following procedure applies
place the positive lead from the jump battery onto the positive terminal of the car battery (clip on)
place the negative lead of the jump battery onto the engine ( clip on) not the car battery terminal
this prevents power surges through the ECM
remove the jump battery is the reverse procedure
to reset an ECM use a scan tool
there are jumper leads now on the market which have surge protection in a lead so in that case positive to positive and negative to negative

Battery went dead put charger on battery and charger shuts off.

the reason for this may be the way you have attached the battery charger leads
charging batteries require the positive lead of the charger to be clipped to the positive terminal of the battery
likewise the negative lead of the charger goes to the negative terminal of the battery
I suspect that you are hooking positive to negative in which the charger will go into overload protection and shut down.

Charging the battery

If you have a battery charger, remove the battery cover to expose the battery terminals then you can connect the battery charge to the battery.
Make sure you connect the positive lead from the charger to the positive terminal on the battery and the negative lead from the charger to the negative terminal on the battery before you power up the battery charger.
When you have finished charging the battery, power off the battery charger before you disconnect the leads from the battery.

12 Volt Battery charger

To test a diode, use an ohm meter. Place the red lead from the ohm meter to the anode, "Positive" end of the diode, and the negative lead to the cathode,"Negative" end of the diode. If it is good, you will have some sort of a reading. Then switch the leads around. If the diode has no reading when the leads are switched around, the diode is good. Remember that at least one end of the diode has to be desoldered from the circuit board.

Car battery is dead. I have a Black and Decker Simple Start car battery recharger. I can figure out how to plug the outlet part into the wall but I do not know what to do about the part that goes onto...

You should have 2 wires with clips = one red that you clip on the Positive [ + ] post of the battery, this may be marked red on the cable. The other black clips to the Negitive [ - ] post of the battery.
Don't plug in the charger untill you clip the wires to the battery, make sure the charger is set to 12 volts. If your cherger has a cigar lighter wire just plug it in to the dash port.

The positive and negative clips got cut off my charger and i dont know which wire goes to which clip

Use a multimeter to determine polarity. If there is no "-" sign to the left of the reading, the red lead of the multimeter is connected to the positive wire and the black lead to the negative wire. If there is a minus next to the reading, the red lead is connected to the negative wire.

Charging the battery safely

I wish more people would ask this question.First of all get yourself a good charger, one that will do 2 AMPS and up on a positioning switch.Take the positive lead from the charger(RED) and clip it to the postive terminal of the battery,it will be clearly marked with a + sign or the lead will be red as well. Then take the negative clip(black) and attach it to the negative terminal OR a good clean section of the frame. Then turn the charger on/plug it in. When removing the clips remove the negative first and then the positive(this is really important because you don't want to cause a spark). If it is wet damp,or really foggy DO NOT try to charge the battery,I have seem them explode under these conditions. The other alternative is to purchase the type of charger that connects permanently to the battery and all you have to do is plug it in. This is a good option to keep the battery up in cold weather.Hope this helps ,good luck

Need to charge 12v car battery

Hello,

If battery is out of the vehicle, connect positive lead to positive terminal and negative lead to negative terminal.

If battery is in the vehicle, the proper way to connect leads depends on if it's a negative-grounded or a positive-grounded vehicle.

Here is a link to the manual for this charger.
Click where it says "Get This manual" (it's free).

Scroll down to pages 4 and 5 and it give detailed instructions on the proper way to connect leads and a lot more. It's a good manual to keep for future use.

I hope this helps.
