In a VCR SP which stands for standard play on an E180 tape will last for 3 hours. So you can record 3 hours on it and much longer in EP however the quality of the picture will be less.
However I suspect that you could mean a DVD recorder. In which case a 4.7GB disc will last for 120 minutes on SP and 240 minutes on EP. Again there will be a loss of picture quality on the longer setting, but most people can cope with that.

How can I get my VCR to go from SP to EP?

Most of these there is either a button on the front or ONLY on the original remote--if no button on unit itself you need that remote.

I am trying to record a program in EP mode but when it records it returns back to SP mode. How can I set the tape for EP without it returning to SP?

Most VCR's have a default recording setting for recording speed or other settings. It's just a question of finding the right menu. Have a good look around the menus. However the VCR might default to SP after recording in EP, however the playback should switch to EP when playing.

VCR LP/EP compatibility

Vdumitre -

No, not usually. If you've recorded a tape at LP and put it another machine that doesn't have LP, it usually won't play properly. Some machines that have only SP/EP will do this, but they are got scarce as more manufacturers dropped the LP speed. Your best bet is to buy an older one from a thrift shop or a garage sale, making sure that it will play LP. Then, copy your older LP tapes to SP or EP (Run the OUT from the LP unit to the IN on the SP/EP unit, and choose "record from line in", "aux", or "rear input").

Change VCR settings from SP to LP or EP

Hi;
I have a Panasonic VCR with a different, but I know how to 'fix' your problem on my m/c. The remote for my m/c has a "REC MODE" button; operating that button changes from SP to EP etc. Check it with the "Program" button on your TV screen.

What does sp and ep stand for when setting the record timer on the vcr

SP = Single Play (normal 1:1 recording)
EP = Extended Play (normally allows two, four or even eight times the normal or Single Play length to be recorded, according to make/model.) Picture quality in EP will not be as good as SP.

Vcr recording speeds

Yes. SP is "Standard Play" and LP is "Long Play", while EP/SLP are short for Extended Play/Super Long Play respectively.

Mitsubishi U54 VCR Recording Speed

If you have a remote, there should be a button labeled "SP/EP" or "RECORDING SPEED." Otherwise, I might try looking in the VCR's main menu.

How to set the tape lenght when recording

on older vcr's there should be a sp/slp or ep button on your remote or vcr. if not when you set a program to record, the option to choose should be there. sp= 2 hrs, ep =6 hrs.

Poor EP playback

hi sir
the speed in EP is differ from sp ,EP it is much slow then all quality would be less cause you are using less magnetic particles on the tape so here are many reasons for bad recording
first may be you have to clean video heads
or ,you have to clean the path of the tape in the recorder there are some metal guides that turnes with the tape to get it rounds the heads they may be dirty
or clean the capstain pinch roller and its metal roller that makes it run ( the capstain roller )
or you should have new heasd drum sir
regards
