Question about Washing Machines

The belt has slipped off the pulleys and we cant get it back on as it is too tight. how can we put the belt back on - is there a tension adjuster?

Depending on make of machine..............
most you can loosen the motor put belt on then tighten motor back up....

I have a 2005 ford focus zx4.the belt squeals when it is first started.is the tensioner or idler pulleys adjustable?


No, the tensioner is spring loaded and is supposed to keep the belt tight. The spring could be getting weak, or the belt could have stretched. Or it could be glazed and slipping on the pulleys.
The reason it squeals on startup is because of the extra load put on the alternator, and the belt is cold.

REpace alternator belt


if you mean serpentine belt, there is a tensioner pulley that keeps it tight. remember how it goes between everything for when you put the new one on. use the tensioner pulley to relieve the tension (it will move inward towards the engine) and while holding the pulley, slip the old belt off. then fit the new one around everything else before the tensioner pulley. then pull the tensioner pulley inwards again, slip the new belt over the tensioner pulley, then let it out slowly. make sure that all of the cogs on the belt are in the right place of the pulleys (if they arent, it will most likey slip into place when the engines starts but still might not want to chance it)

I am trying to hange the serpentine belt on my 09 lancer rallyart and it keeps slipping off


Locate the two belts on the left side (passenger side) of your Mitsubishi Lancer. The outer belt is a serpentine belt, operating four pulleys and the inner belt is your alternator belt.

  • 2 Follow the serpentine (outer) belt to the three pulleys lined up vertically near the front of the engine compartment. Locate the middle pulley, which is the tension pulley for the belt.
  • 3 Loosen the bolt on the middle pulley with a socket wrench by turning counter-clockwise. Do not remove the bolt, just turn it a couple of times. Loosen the tensioner bolt on the side of the of the pulley, facing the front of the vehicle.
  • 4 Remove the serpentine belt and then loosen the bolt on the alternator. With the alternator loose, move it forward so that the alternator belt loosens up and then remove belt from the pulleys.
  • 5 Install the new alternator belt by placing it over both inside pulleys. Tighten the tension on the alternator belt by moving the alternator back and keeping tension on it by holding it back with a long screwdriver. While the alternator belt is tight, use a socket wrench to tighten up the bolt on the alternator.
  • 6 Place the serpentine belt back on the pulleys and then use a socket wrench on the bolt on the front of the tension pulley. Once the serpentine belt is tight, tighten up the bolt in the middle of the tension pulley.
  • 7 Start the Mitsubishi Lancer's engine to test the alternator belt and make sure it is working properly. Once you have verified it is working, turn the engine off.

    make sure the tensioner is tight,it has a spring in it to move clockwise,do not leave any bolt loose,make sure you are routing the belt where the tension holds the belt on,not other way.

    How does one replace the serpentine belt on a 2004 toyota avalon?


    Pull on the belt to see the tensioner pulley move put a wreanch on the nut holding the pulley on and pull the tensioner back as now the belt is loose slip it off the easiest pulley to grt to. work the belt off the reat of the pulleys and work the new one back on till you getr back to the easy one pull back on the tentioner and slip the belt over the easy pully letting loose of the tenstioner will keep the belt tight.

    Re install a serpentine belt on a 94 chrysler lebaron 3.0L


    There should be a diagram attached to the car near where the belt goes showing how the belt is to run through the pulleys.
    Newer vehicles have a tension pulley which is a pulley on a spring loaded arm that keeps the belt tight.

    First run the belt on all the other pulleys and then use a wrench to hold the tension pulley back while you slip the belt on.

    Older cars do not have a tension pulley and you had to usually loosen something like the alternator a little bit to get it on.

    The serpentine belt tensioner has a 3/8 drive rachet square on it. By attaching a 3/8 drive rachet and a strong forearm, pry the tensioner back and slip the belt under it. At your local auto parts dealership, they sell a prybar with a 3/8 drive square that's welded to it if you don't have a strong forearm. This runs about $20. It might actually be easier to slip the belt under the belt tensioner. Prying the tensioner back and slipping the belt over the water pump pulley or power steering pump pulley.

    hi The drive belt (or belts) of a washing machine may become worn or damaged, causing noisy operation or stopping the washer entirely. A damaged drive belt is easy to replace. Remove the back panel of the washer to gain access to the belt. To remove the belt:

    Step 1: Loosen the bolt on the motor bracket and move the motor to put slack in the belt.

    Step 2: Remove the old belt and stretch a new one into place on the pulleys.

    Step 3: To put tension on the new belt, use a hammer handle or a short pry bar to push the motor into position while you tighten the bolt in the adjustable bracket. The belt should have about 1/2 inch deflection when you press on it at the center point, midway between the pulleys. If the belt is too loose, it will slip on the pulleys, causing the machine to malfunction. If the belt is too tight, it will wear very quickly and will probably become so hot that it will start to smoke or smell.

    Loose pulleys can also cause problems. Most pulleys are fastened to shafts with setscrews around the hub of the pulley. These screws must be tight or else the pulley or belt will slip. The resulting malfunction may seem to be caused by a faulty motor, but it can be corrected by tightening the pulleys and adjusting the belt. For this reason, always check the belts and pulleys before working on the motor.
