If it is faulty, why does it work perfectly with Windows fax and scan?

  • ninatgomez May 22, 2011

I was told to reboot my computer and re-attach the USB for my HP7310 but scanner is still not working. When I try to install drivers, it is saying that all drivers are installed. The scanner works well with Microsoft Fax and Scan but not HP Solution center

Mine is a new Lenovo with Windows 7 64 bit

  • ninatgomez May 22, 2011

You gave me material to read for Vista. Mine is a Windows 7 64 bit.

  • ninatgomez May 23, 2011

I uninstalled and reinstalled the HP All in One with all of its drivers. Yes, I did indicate 64 bit. When I do the diagnostic, everything is OK except for the HP Twain Driver. It is saying it is used by something else. I am trying to figure it out - do you think I should delete Microsoft Fax and Scan because maybe it is confusing the driver?
I also did what you said - turn off, reboot, etc. It didnt work so I just reinstalled everything. Looks better except for the Twain issue

Hi,

According to your problem, you need to check the scanner status first. Check the scanner roller and light are moving properly while scanner is on work. If there is any problem then you have to repair it, may you have to change the scanner roller. You can test the scanner from scanner and camera wizard in control panel. If any fault in scanner then it will be shown in this wizard. You can try fresh reinstall of the driver after removing all drivers and other component of the printer. And after installation reboot the system and the printer both.

Hi,
If you are sure that you have installed the right driver for your device, then this is definitely a sign of a faulty scanner. You can have it replaced if it is under warranty.
I've had the same problem with my own HP scanner, and the workaround I usually do, is to unplug the usb and reboot my computer. Then plug the usb back and let my pc detect my scanner. It would usually work after doing that but will do the same problem again eventually.
Hope this helps.

As i have told you, this is if you are sure that you have installed the right drivers. You are using windows 7 64 bit, have you installed a 64bit driver for the scanner?

Do you have any other printer installed? You can try removing the Microsoft Fax and Scan as it cna be the reason why the twain driver is flagging it is being used by another process. Make sure you do the reboot after removing so changes can apply.

Thank you for writing a complete question that we are able to understand. It's nice to see a well worded question on here for a change.

To answer your question, this sounds like either a driver or firmware problem with the scanner. You can download the latest driver for your scanner from the HP support site here (click here) and download the available firmware upgrade for your scanner as well from the same location.

I would check to make sure that you have the latest driver first, and install that first if you do not. Then I would install the firmware upgrade immediately after, since it seems to fix the error that you are experiencing:

"Scanner hangs and does not respond when scanning many pages from the flatbed."

Good luck and thanks again for the well worded question!

is the solution center or hp director installed on the pc? look under add/remove and check if it's included in the list of programs installed. if it is there, look for it's icon on the desktop or click on start, all programs,hp folder,hp director and hp solution center.launch it from there.use it to scan from your computer.check for error messages and let me know.
if it is not installed ,you may need the disk to install it.or go to hp.com and click on support and drivers to download the latest version of the printer software.

My program for Officejet 7310 all in one is installed but whenever I try to scan, I get a message that the software needs to be installed. What do I do?

Try going to Hp soltions for updated drivers. Also windows has it own scanning drivers. Try going to control panel and selecting scanner devices, and go through the installation wizard to install a scaning device, if your scanner is not listed then just click on install new device.

HP L7650 Scanner Could Not Be Initialized in Leopard (Not Found)

If you're using Vista, this happens all too regularly with HP printers. I've had a few where I have to uninstall everything then re-install to make things work.
Two weeks later the same thing, same process.
Try downloading latest drivers from HP and see if that helps. HP don't admit there's a problem.
Don't seem to have this problem with Epson printers tho.

Scanner problem

Hi,

I understand that you are receiving the error to install the All-i n-one software while scanning from the printer front panel.

You have not informed whether the unit is connected in network or with USB cable.

However, follow the below given instructions to resolve the issue.

Verify that the communication between the computer and the printer is fine and the full version All-in-one software is installed in the computer.
Solution one: Verify that the Digital Imaging Monitor is ready The Digital Imaging Monitor must be running for the scan to feature to function. The Digital Imaging Monitor normally displays in the system tray in the bottom-right corner of the computer screen, which is next to the time. The Digital Imaging Monitor is ready when a check mark displays on the icon. This can take some time after startup to complete the initialization and for the check mark to display on the icon. If the Digital Imaging Monitor displays in the system tray, proceed to Solution two - Populate the destination list . Search for the file " hpqtra08 " in your computer and run the file. Solution two: Populate the destination list Here are the steps to set the scan options: 1. Open the HP Solution Center. 2. Click Settings. 3. Click Scan Settings and Preferences. 4. Click Scan to… Setup. 5. Click the Destination List tab. 6. If the Front Panel Destination List is empty, this is the reason the All-in-One is generating the error message, and you should continue with this procedure. 7. Click each program that you want to display in the scan to list. 8. Click the Add arrow. 9. Click OK. This should resolve the issue that you are experiencing with. Regards, Lawrence
