It might, if you use it properly. But it's not guaranteed to help.

Then you are not using it properly I guess :-)

    Why don't you do this:

    1) Click Start , Run , and enter msinfo32 into the Open field.

    2) Click the plus sign next to Components .

    3) Select Sound Device and write the Name, Manufacturer and especially the PNP Device ID then post them here or at thehttp://www.coppelltvrepair.com tech support forum.

We'll do what we can do to help.

If the device isn't broken you might be trying to install an incorrect device driver version. A computer system information tool such a Speccy (freeware) can help find the correct model number for your device: http://www.driverstorer.com/speccy.html

Once you have verified the correct model number, find the correct device driver download by navigating through this table:

http://www.driverstorer.com/drivers.html

good luck!

No audio devices installed

Try going to the manufacturers website and downloading the latest audio drivers for your PC and installing them. Check the device manager and look for anything showing up as a ! That's a good sign that's something is working incorrectly or doesn't have a driver installed.

My pc says no audio output device installed, but in device manager it says its working properly and the drivers are up to date

Well it is possible that the audio driver installed is not the one compatible with you computer board. Try downloading the specific driver needed for your computer's official website. This should solve your problem.

No audio from PC

Hi,

You just need to download the appropriate audio driver for your motherboard. Go to the Device Manager and install all missing drivers for "Unknown Devices". Either connect to the internet or use the driver disc which came with the motherboard of the computer.

For those who doesn't know how to access Device Manager, please follow the steps below.

For Windows XP:
Start -> Run -> Type devmgmt.msc (in the box) -> Right click Unknown device -> Properties -> Driver tab -> Update driver

For Windows Vista and Windows 7
Start -> Type devmgmt.msc (in the start search box) -> Right click Unknown device -> Properties -> Driver tab -> Update driver

Hope this helps.

when your friend give it to you did she/he also gives some cd installers? it says no audio device installed doesn't mean there's no audio card on it, it's just that windows xp doesn't support the audio card in the r40 laptop that you have. if you can do upgrade it to windows 7 it would be better because win 7 supports a lot of hardware. if you don't want just try to download the audio driver for you laptop. do you happened to know the audio card model of the laptop. you can see it as you turn on the your laptop you will see new hardware detected try to get the serial number of the device and ping me here so i can guide you were to download the sound card driver for you.thanks..

Just to make sure desktops almost never have built in speakers.
1. Check that your speakers work. Try them with an MP3 player or other device to make sure they work.
2. Check that the speaker is plugged in the right socket. Play something on computer and switch around the plug.
3. In windows press START->Control Panel->System->Device manager.
Right click on Sound device and write down the make (Company and a model number).
4a. Google their website and go to support->downloads/drivers and download the appropriate driver.
4b. If its an INTEL sound device you might have to look up the motherboard as it might be bundled with the motherboard driver.

No sound

check first if the driver for the audio is installed, you have right click on my computer, then choose properties, then device manager and see if the Multimedia Audio Controller doesn't have a question mark on it, if it has you have to download the driver from your laptop manufacturer site. But if it doesn't have the question mark, just go to the control panel, then sound/audio and see if it is muted or disabled
