Question about Sony KV-36FS100 36" TV
1999 SONY Trinitron Model NO.KV-36FS10 36" does not display picture or sound. Was sitting down watching it all the sudden heard a "POP." then completely shut off. Tried unplugging it for minimal 4hrs but no response. When 'powered on" only the Stand-by light remains on ALL the time....Any idea to the problem if so any solution????
The 'pop' may have been an arc of electricity from the flyback coil. The flyback is the device that produces very HIGH VOLTAGES --that can kill so be careful--. It may have just goten old and the material around the flyback broke down and allowed the electricity to arc to a near by source to ground. it happens when CRT sets get old. Typically I expect 7-10 years of a consumer grade CRT. Other then that any fix for it would have to be performed by a trained technician because voltages can linger in the 'caps' and even the 'tube' itself for years, I once got 'bit' by a set that was left un-plugged for 5 years.
