Question about Gilmour Garden

Open Question

Need assembly instructions for a brand new Gilmour Pole Saw model 418TCS that I've purchased from Northern Tool. Opened it up only to find the small cardboard insert with model# and a one page safety instructiuons... Think I have it correct but, would like to see an instructions sheet as this could affect the lidetime replacement policy.

SOURCE: need assembly instructions

Posted on Dec 15, 2008

SOURCE: Hi, I just purchased a FUH-54B at Northern Tool

It sounds like you have 120v from line 1 and line to to ground. What do you have between line 1 and line 2?
You should have 220 or 240v. If you dont have this
the problem is at the breaker. Are the wires going to the same breaker?

If you do have 220 or 240 between line 1 and line 2 at the unit, then it appears thr problem is at the unit,
probably the thermostat isn`t turned up high enough?

If it has a contactor, is it pulled in? If not then there is
a control problem. If you are skilled and confident you
could simply push the contactor in and it should
operate or have an electrician do it. Most of the time
you can bypass the thermostat and close the
contactor that way.

SOURCE: need new chain for remington pole saw, model

It should, I have been on this earth to long for a definate answer. Both saws have 40 drive links, are 3/8s, and a gauge of 0.050. Please verify my findings here:
Oregon Bar & Chain Selector

Have you contacted a local saw shop? With your chain as a pattern they can make a replacement in couple of minutes. Inquire by phone about a price you may be pleasantly surprised. Give them Oregon number 91VG040G (low kickback, most likely what your saw is fitted with). If you feel adept you might try a slightly more agressive chain but the odds of kick back increase. HTH

SOURCE: Am I wise to purchase a Remington Pole Saw or

Remington Saws have ceased operations and, unless you like to make your own replacement parts, they are prone to failure. The gearbox is sealed and the motor brushes are not available anywhere. Look elsewhere!

Northern Tool 10" compound miter saw. How do I change the blade?

remove the power cord from the socket in the wall first
if there is a small hole in the blade , place a phillips screw driver in that hole and turn until the driver is locked against the depth guard
use the correct size spanner /socket and undo the spindle nut holding the blade on
if there is no hole ,then place the screw driver in the teeth of the blade to lock it

the motor will spin so that the teeth cut against the direction of cut ( up into the guard or up through the depth guard ( blades normally have a arrow for rotation direction)
tighten the spindle nut and if no hole in the blade use a hammer and hit the spanner with a hard rap

The switch of the saw is not working 00

You need an AC voltmeter to trace the problem with the switch. It can also be a bad motor brush/spring--these saws are great for killing motor brushes, and there are virtually no replacements available as Remington has ceased saw operations. If it is a bad brush, visit an electrical tool shop to see if they have something that will work from a different brand of tool. Good luck!

What adjustments are needed when unboxed?

Are you aware they are no longer in production? Replacement parts are near impossible to find and Remington(Power) needs more than its fair share. If me I would return it for almost any other brand. If you opt to keep it all assembly instructions are in the OM. The OM is one of best parts of your saw. Lou

Electric pole saw Model 106890-02. Chain oil

We are in no way connected with RemingtonPower. They are no longer in production and replacement parts are very difficult to find. Often eBay is your only source of parts. I can only suggest an Internet search for "Remington YourPartNumber". Does it make sense to invest more money in an obsolete item? Eventually a part you need will not be available. Invest in a name brand you expect to be around for at least 10 years. Name brand saws are better constructed than was Remington IMO, and need fewer parts over the long haul. Sorry. Lou

I need a recharger for a DESA Remington brand 18v battery for a Remington pole saw model number BPS188A . The charger has the model number of 121397-01 for a RB18V BATTERY PACK NICD 18V

Yea go to and search for your part there. Their model #'s are different so search by finding a new saw and using it's # to locate parts from it.

I have pole saw model 108526-01 I need a new chain and a cap and bulb assembly where can I get these parts?

The good news is:
Your manual containing a parts list can be found here:
There is an IPL near the bottom, please save copy to your hard drive.

The part number for the oil cap & bulb assembly is 107319-02, I found it here:
I make no guarantees about availability. If you take the existing chain to a local chainsaw seller/mechanic they can almost certainly use it as a pattern to make a new chain

The bad news is:
Remington Power Tools have ceased production. Parts availability is limited to what is on hand. I recommend rather than purchase parts for this discontinued brand you put the funds toward the purchase of a new saw. Poulan offers 8 different electric models, have been in business for a very long time and are a subsidiary of Husqvarna. HTH
We can provide no further help for your saw.

Require a manual for an ''efco'' chain sharpener.

There are no "efco" chain sharpeners at Northern Tool or at There is a Chinese made grinder with the Northern Tool name on it. It is a lessor quality copy of an Oregon model 511A. It is such a good copy that parts and the manuals are interchangable. The 511A manual can be downloaded here:

I have the model 108526-01 Remington pole saw which has the round pole with a plastic compression nut (which recently broke). Can I buy the newer octagonal pole and if so, does it use the same saw mounting...

I have the sollution, had the same problem with the broken compression nut. Just use two hose clamps, one to hold the pole extended and the other clamps around compression base. Its a cheap easy fix and it work great fo me. The Real Mr.Fixit
