Unfortunately, this GoGear did not come with a recovery method. You can go to www.usasupport.philips.com and enter in your model #. Go to "software & drivers" section. see if it has a download for device/firmware manager - but I believe this is the one SA model that did not have one. Click on the "Repair" tab if you are able to load the software.
1)Recovery mode - to get PC to recognize player - Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard. 2) To prevent future occurrences - make sure you have downloaded the installation CD or software - open Philips Device Manager (Start --> All Programs --> Philips D) - click on Update - twice - the player will upgrade to the latest firmware
Here's the url for the Philips website, user manual for the MP£ player. You'll need Abobe Acrobat to view it.
Power on: Press and hold >|| key (where the > is a tfilled in triangle facing to the right) until the PHILIPS splash screen appears.
