Tabletop heater won't stay lit

The first thing to go on a patio heater is the thermocouple, these are consumable items that need to be replaced depending on useage. Found this site very useful patio heaters problem solving.

I cannot get the pilot light to stay lit. I disconnected the burner orifice and to see if the gas was getting through as it seems as if it is.

Several things can cause the problem you're having.

1. Low gas pressure due to a near empty tank or the heaters regulator is locked up and only
allows a small amount of gas to get the pilot. To solve this, turn the gas tank valve OFF & dis-
connect the hose from the tank. Wait 5 minutes & reconnect the hose to the tank. Open the gas
valve VERY, VERY SLOWLY (Slow motion, slow). Once the valve is fully open, light the pilot
and hold the gas control valve in for 30 seconds to 60 seconds. After that time, release the control
valve knob. Did the pilot stay lit? If so, problem solved. If it didn't you will need to replace the
heater's Hose/Regulator Assembly. You can use the same one that's for a gas grill. And find it at
any hardware store or home center that sells grills and accessories for about $30.00.

2. The pilot is dirty and needs to be cleaned. Use a can of compressed air with a straw nozzle (like you clean your computer with) to blow out the pilot tip.

3. The thermocouple has failed and needs to be replaced. If this is the case, you can order a new thermocouple for Blue Rhino (1.800.762.1142) , the manufacturer of your Patio Heater.

I hope this helped you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

Once I press the button to start the heater must wait a good 30 seconds or more before it stays lit when button is released.

That's normal. It's the correct way to allow the the Thermocouple and/or Thermopile to fully heat up.
If you have been turning the pilot light OFF after each use and then relighting it when you want to use the heater, that's really not necessary. Leaving the pilot lit during the heating season is a better way to go. If you think you're saying gas by turning the pilot light OFF and then relighting it again, when you want heat, you're really not saving a significant amount of gas or money. The pilot burning continuously, uses very little gas.

Hope this helped you. Please let me know. Thanks

Pilot burnes yellow and stays lighted when I turn the may burner on its on for about 30 sec. then goes out pilot and burner

You may be low on gas in the tank and there's not enough pressure and/or volume of gas to sustain it. Also, try carefully cleaning the burner elements.

Hello,
Typically, when a pilot won't stay lit, short of being out of gas, is a faulty thermocouple. They are fairly inexpensive and not too difficult to replace and should fix your problem. My only other suggestion, is to make sure the pilot flame is a strong blue color and is actually heating the thermocouple tip. If it's a lazy yellow flame, it may not generate enough heat to keep the pilot flame on. In this case, using a can of compressed air with attached straw (like you use to clean computer keyboards) is needed to blow out the dust or spiderweb that is clogging the pilot orifice in the pilot assembly, which is the place where the pilot flame burns. Hope this helps. Let me know if you need any more assistance. Douglas

Charmglow Patio Heater

The yhernocoupler would snuff the pilot if bad. What ignites the overhead burners? and what regulates the overhead gas supply? Look into this. Too much gas will not light as easily as proper balance gas and air. Even more so in a tower type heater.. Turn the gas on low and the pilot should grab it. Good luck
