Flickering upon power up. Can you give me an estimated cost to have this fixed by a professional. I dont have experience or adequate tools to do myself. Im I better off just buying a new monitor?

It's likely that the lamp that brightens the screen is failing. Honestly, it will probably cost you more to replace the lamp than just to buy a new monitor. LCD monitors are not too expensive these days, and repairs often cost a lot more than it would seem like.

There are a large number of similar-size screens (20" widescreen) available for under $150 USD. Since any repair would require finding a lamp for your exact screen (which is no longer in production), a repair would probably cost you $200 USD or more.

Good luck, and hope this is helpful!

Power surge-no picture or sound, just red blinking power light

Any malfunction associated with a blinking redlight usually indicates a circuit problem or defective component. Unfortunately, the days of taking off the back cover of your TV and replacing a defective tube or fuse are long gone. Proper servicing will require troubleshooting procedures that can only be performed by a qualified electronic repair facility or professional television repair person. Ask for an estimate and a realistic appraisal of whether the set can be adequately fixed. Depending on the age and condition of your TV it may not be cost effective to repair.

Lightning strike

Lightning hits do some nasty damage to electronics.
Alot of times that type of repair is part of an insurance claim. The insurance company requires estimates and will repair them up to the cost of replacement.

If you arent dealing with an insurance claim on this I'd still recommend a professional estimate.
Lightning damage sometimes is confined to the power supply and once repaired could be fine bit in my experience most items that take a nasty hit are a write off.
