Question about Washing Machines

Open Question

We forgot to close the metal drum of our Bauknect Toploader WAT Pure 42 FLD washing machine and shut the lid anyway and put it on a normal wash. When realising the error we opened it up and the white plastic rim at the top is slightly damaged. Will this just require a new part?

yep, you most likely are looking at disassembly of washer to re-install the lid switch mechanism. that metal rod likely leads to some sort of switch.

the switch can be bypassed BUT if you do be careful it is after all a safety device to prtect those who "know no better than stick their hand in a wash tub spinning over 700 rpm" the switch may be on the left side just behind left lid hinge on some it was even under right side and others on right edge of lid opening either the screw holes are broke off or lever is not pressing in to activate switch..1 other thing ck screws in hinges if left side is loose have seen it fail to engage switch lever

If this is a front loader this is a common problem. Unfortunately, it is also a very extensive project (about 8 hours). The tripod supports that attache the drum to the center spindle commonly break. The remedy is to replace both the front and rear tub, and the basket as well. It is also recommended that you replace the drain pump as well. Generally, they will cover the parts (not including the drain pump) under warranty but the labor will be a customer pay.

normally pump filter is the best place to start it could be jamed with a coin or hair clip if you take machine outside and empty it then lay it on its side you can access the pump take it off then stand up the machine and pour hot water into the soap draw check water should run out of bottom freely taking any fluff or bits with it now take apart the pump and clean it all out dry all components before reasembly if the machine still doesent wory could need a new pump

My washing machine is filling with water then pauses then drains but dose nothing eles. Wat is the problem?

Need more information, however, there are a few things that could cause this, a bad lid switch could be the cause. In some washers the washer will drain if it does not see the lid closed, or the lid switch activated, and it will drain as a safety precaution from flooding or standing water. Check the lid switch.

My toploader is smelly

Turn off inlet taps. Put a cup or 2 of bleach in a bulcket of hot water and pour it through soap dispenser, maybe with a jug. when water is seen, ie at usual water level (make sure element is covered of course); close machine and put it on boil wash. This should kill any bacteriia causing smell. There are other home made cleansers available on other sites, using vinegar, etc. Pure leach can affect rubber it's said, though I haven't found this to be so

My hoover galaxy washing machine stops when clothes are not balanced properly.i have to even out the clothes then start the machine.if the clothes are balanced it finishes its cycle.if not the machine...

Hi

It is normal for the drum to sway excessively and hit the balance switch if the load is not evenly distributed around the drum or if you have excess cloths.

Once the balance switch is trigerred, you can reset by openning and closing the door. It is a safety mechanism which stops the spin cycle if the drum sways excessively.

If this tends to happen often, then you need to make sure the machine is properly balanced and not leaning too much to the back.

Also the drum suspension rods do tend to wear out over time and loose their firmness, causing the drum to sway excessively. You can check this by opening the lid. Pushing down and from side to side onto the agitator, and seeing if their is a firm bound on the drum. Also making sure the drum returns to centre position. If the suspension springs feel loose and wayward, then they will need replacement.

Ash

The small metal piece on the lid rusted and broke away so now even when the lid of the washing machine is closed, the machine won't start because ti can't detect the lid as closed. What can I do?

You can bypass the switch by jambing something in there and this will allow it to spin with the lid open or closed but please keep the lid closed at all times while washing.

Water is now filling, washing going round in drum but not rinsing or spinning.

Spinning and Rinsing require a safety switch to be enabled by the closing of the washers lid.

Check around your lid and washer lid opening to find the mechanism that is used to activate the safety switch mounted just under the lid opening inside your machine. Sometimes it is a plastic plunger(protrusion) on the lid that mates with and opening(hole) in the machine around the lid opening to cause this switch to close. Other times it is on the hinge side of the
lid and the protrusion is formed right into the metal of the lid itself to push a plunger on the hinge side to close this safety switch.

Most spinning problems on machines are cause by this lid safety switch. Washing machines cannot spin if the lid is not closed and this safety switch is not working to switch power to the spinning motor.

Washing machine has stopped mid-cycle

Your lid switch has failed. Take loose the control panel with the two screws in the back corners of the panel(Back of machine) Then flip the panel forward and your lid switch is on the left side cliped into the case. Replace it and your good to wash clothes again.
