Have a Selectric III. The black "U" shaped or "wishbone" plastic that guides the ribbon next to the platen has come loose. Can't figure out where it attaches or where the tension points are to hold it in...

Because it is a selectric III it can use 2 different ribbons. one the ribbon guides are part of the cassette the other the ribbon guiges are part of the typewroter. If it isthe first just replace the ribbon if it is the other you will probably need the lifter arm assembly.

CORRECTION TAPE

correction tapes will not work with multistrike ribbons. You have to use a correctable ribbon. If you can find a white out tape, it will work with multistrike. What model typewroter do you have?
