Door will not stay shut

There has to be some sort of spring on the door latch assembly that keeps the door closed. If broken or no tension the door will not latch and spring open. And when the door springs open, a safety switch shuts the machine off.

My malber wd2000 door won't open

Malbers use a thermal (heat acting) latch to hold the door closed, so it stays latched for about 2 mins after being turned off. This is to give you time to think before you open the door and possibly spill water all over your feet. When the little bi-metallic piece cools off, it bends to one side (inside the latch assy) releasing the catch, and the door can be opened. Sometimes, the bi-metallic part bends OK, but the latch catches and won\'t release. It just needs a little vibration to free it up. A smack to the latch area (on door or face of Washer) will free the latch.

I tell my customers: Don\'t pull too hard on the white door handle. If you can\'t open it with your little finger (seriously) it\'s not ready to open!

Washing machine won't turn on

It is likely that the trouble can be traced to the door latch switch. Since it is a front loader, it isn't possible to open the door once running - or start if the door is not latched fully.

This can be due to a faulty sensor (that detects whether the door is closed fully or not), wiring between the sensor and circuit board, or the circuit board that contains the logic that operates the washer. Before tearing into it, carefully inspect all around the door gasket and door opening on the machine itself. Inspect the actuator on the door - check to see that it hasn't been snapped off (if it has, replace it and try again) and that it is aligned with the sensor on the machine. Apply a modest amount of pressure on the door to see if the door simply isn't closing enough to allow the actuator to activate the sensor (making it believe the door is open). If it works, look for an obstruction somewhere that is interfering with the door closure.

Otherwise, you're goijng to need to call for service.

That's about it.. good luck!

Unless the problem is visibly obvious (corroded connection, broken connector, pinched wire, etc.) it will be nearly impossible to fix without some special tools, troubleshooting skills and familiarity with the washer's service manual.

Dryer won't start

If you look closely, there are 3 separate pins that must latch. One is a simple push-button style which latches no problem.
The others are little prongs at the top and bottom of door. The bottom prong latches cleanly, but the top one will not latch because the door is a bit too flexible.
Close the door normally, then firmly press on the top edge of the door. You will hear the final latch grab, then you press and hold the start button. The dryer starts normally.

Kenmore front load washer door won't latch lock light on

On some Kenmore front load models, if the black gasket around the door opening is unseated (for example, because you drag some heavy wet laundry over it) the door will not engage the lock and stay closed. This is a feature to prevent the washer from leaking when the gasket is not sealed. To fix it, simply reseat the gasket and the door will close and lock.

The dryer door will not stay closed. It will actually close but it will not stay closed therefore it stops during the cycle. It we prop something against the door it will stay closed and a full drying...

Go to www.appliancepartspros.com do a search using the model number and you will find the schematics for the dryer. Look for the cabinet parts diagram and locate the latch assembly. Look for the door latch and the door catch both parts will probably cost less than $10. There may be some minor disassembly required but not a big ordeal.

Whirlpool Front Loader Dryer Door will NOT stay closed

I have the same issue with the door popping open. If you push hard on the bottom of the door then it snaps in. I think the bottom latch is broken or misalligned.
