SOURCE: replace pullcord on troy built mower

Replacing the rope is not difficult but tricky. I believe that your model has a fuel tank on top of starter cover, empty fuel and remove tank to expose starter cover. Remove the starter cover and place it on your workbench with the plastic rewind spool visible and remove the old rope noting how it was tied. The rope is sold in various sizes from # 3 to # 6.5. Most mowers use a #4.5, with length of about 6 to 7 feet. You may not need this much but more is better. Now practice inserting the rope thru the hole where it comes out of the cover into the hole where it ties on the spool. Once you can do this you are ready to wind. The spool /spring winds when you pull the rope, that why it recoils when you let go of the rope. With that in mind, turn (wind) the spool in the same direction that it turns when you pull the rope. It should be getting tighter as you turn. Keep winding in the direction that it turns when you pull the rope untill it will not go anymore. It should be very tight. Now unwind one complete turn and align the hole of the spool to the hole in the housing and hold it there while you insert the rope from outside hole into the spool and tie knot. After the knot is tied slowly let rope rewind into the spool untill it stops on its own. You are done. You should have plenty of extra rope left to extend out to the handlebar. Enjoy

SOURCE: troy bilt mower won't stay running to cut lawn

You may want to check the gas cap to see if it clogged with dirt. If the gas cap is clear, you more than likely have a carburetor problem. If you need tips on carb. cleaning, feel free to ask.

SOURCE: my troy built 210 6.75 hp mower self propelled mow...

remove the front black plastic plate that is stamped self propelled and replace the wheel drive belt that attaches the engine pulley (above blade) to the transmission pulley (found under the cover). When you buy the belts, pick up two or three as I seem to go through a couple per season. Hopes this helps

Troy built mower honda 160 engine oil leak around governer shaft. no oil seal but shows one on parts breakdown. Can not find part number for shown seal.

Drain oil from mower until proper level. Remove spark plug and pull starter rope several times to blow out cylinder. Spray starter fluid in cylinder pull rope several times to clean out. Replace fouled plug with new spark plug. Remove air cleaner, ensure no oil present, replace filter as needed. Clean air filter box with carb cleaner. Install new air filter reattach filter cover. Prime engine, pull starter rope 1/2 way 4 times to help prime, then pull starter rope fully up to 10 times to start.

Troy bilt tuff cut 200. Will not started.. started fine the other day. pulling cord and will not turn over. already tried spraying starter fluid in carb... it is roughly a 2004

The first things you should check if your mower wont start is fuel, air and spark. Try pulling the cord a few times and then pull out the spark plug. If it looks wet then its getting fuel. Plug the spark plug into the wire while its outside the mower and hold it very close to a piece of metal attached to the engine without touching the metal (use insulated pliers). Have someone else pull the cord and see if you have sparks jumping between the plug and the engine. Also remove the air filter and clean it with gasoline if its made out of foam or buy a replacement if its made out of paper.

Let me know if none of these things work.

DOES TROY BUILT PONY MODEL # 394358 HAVE A OIL FILTER 17.5 HR 42" CUT

Your owner's manual indicates to change the oil and replace the oil fitler on page 19 as part of the regular maintenance schedule. Whether or not your exact engine application does indeed have the filter is the engine manufacturer's option. Here is your manual.

Need a fuel tank for a Troy Bilt mower

You won't find the fuel tank on MTD's site because it is part of the engine. MTD makes the mower, Briggs and Stratton makes the engine. Get the model and type number off the engine and search Briggs and Stratton's site or post it here and I will tell you the part #. Dwain
