Question about LG BD550 Blu-Ray Player

1 Answer

Hi I have just got a LG Blu ray BD550 Player. I want to have a External hard drive which I have also got. The problem is the player only has ONE USB output and the hard drive has 2 USB plugs. I tried a simple USB Hub 4 into 1 but the player does not want to read the hard drive.( I did test it on a a flash drive & that was ok ) Is there a way of adding my drive so the player will read it ?

Ok , thank you, I understand that.

So Is there a way to do It ?

No , it only has the 2 USB plugs.

One of them is on a thick cable, one on a thin cable, that goes into the first plug.

Am I right in thinking the one on the thin wire is just for power ?

Your external hard drive consumes about 10watts of energy to run and is designed to run off 2 USB ports of a computer which can supply around 5 to 7 watts from each USB port. When you add the two its more than sufficient to drive the Hard Disc. Now look at the back of your Blueray player and see what the sticker claims is the power consumed by the bluray player. It must be 18 to 23watts.
The player needs that much power to run the disc/ control circuits / display circuits / video circuits / audio circuits and fan at the back. So where is it going to supply 10 watts for the external hard drive ???.
Flash drive consumes less than 2 watts !!

Does your hard drive have a socket for external 5volt supply. If so just get yourself an adapter and your hard drive will work with the Bluray player.

Is this unit wireless configured

The LG BD550 lacks both Wi-Fi and DLNA compatibility. It can stream Netflix, Vudu, Pandora, and YouTube over Ethernet (via cat 5 or cat 6 cable).

I watched a movie via the usb port from my external drive and when i removed the external drive the movie is still on the player why is this and how can i remove it from the player

When you watch the movie it is cached on the local drive. This is simply to speed up the delivery of the movie, allow you to fast forward, rewind, etc without having to wait for the movie to buffer (sometimes a few minutes). The player will delete the movie as it needs to to recover the extra space. Nothing to worry about. :)

Need to solve the Problem with LG BD550 and Avatar Extended Collectors Edition! Please help!

This player has some sort of memory shortage when running HD-DTS movies like Avatar Extended. Follow these steps to run the movie:

1. Update the software from your LG BD550 by connecting on internet and downloading the last available software version.

2. Reboot LG BD550

3. Check if software update was done successfully.

4. Insert a memory stick or pen drive in LG BD550 with at least 2 Mb available.

5. Insert Avatar Blu-Ray disk in LG BD550.

NOTE: From the time disk is inserted and starts to run, a message saying "for better performance consult a website blablabla" and just after 1 minute the film menu will be shown. If this does not work, reboot LG BD550 with the pen drive connected to it and try it again. Remember to be patience!

I had the same problem with film "The GodFather" and probably there are more films out there in HD-DTS which can have the same problem.

Have fun!
