Question about Homelite Mighty Lite Lawn Trimmer

I haven't been able to get my trimmer to start since the first day I got it. I think it is not drawing fuel when I prime it. Things to check, or what other causes it might be.

When you prime it the prime bulb should fill, if not then the two lines running into the tank are not connected or cracked, either way this would be the first thing I would look at, of course the bulb itself may be cracked, if you check all three things and they are good then the only other thing is the filter inside the tank its connected to the bigger hose. Good Luck Tim

Start by spraying some starter fluid into the carburator. If it starts and dies after few seconds then you most likely have a fuel problem.

Press the primer bulb about 6 times. There should be gasoline flowing through both gas lines the intake and overflow. If not check that the filter ( attached to the end of the intake line ) inside the gas tank is not plugged. It can be removed for testing purposes. Rplacement gas lines and filters are available in places like Sears, Home Depot, Lowes etc.

If the unit does not start with the starting fluid you may have an ignition problem.
Remove and clean the spark plug. Attach the spark plug wire to the plug and hold the threaded part of the plug againt the metal head of the engine. While closely wathing the gap have someone pull the rope and turn the engine over. You should see a small spark jump the gap of the plug.
If not start by replacing the plug ( cheapest, easiest first).
If the unit has gas andspark nd still does not start remove the carburator and disassemble it.
Soak the body in fresh gas for about 10 minutes and blow out the port with small engine carb cleaner ( also avail at the prementioned stores).
Those small carbs don't take much to become clogged.

Car will only start, with a gas prime, and idles but dies if put into gear

Have you checked fuel pressure ?
Have you replaced the fuel filter when you replaced the pump ?
These things and more would need to be checked if you haven't already done so.
And what is the year and model ?

Wont prime up

I have seen a couple of different things cause this... Are the fuel lines hooked up and not split and fuel filter routed right in tank.(hanging freely touching bottom of tank lying flat) next if your carb has adj. screws H &L I have seen when the H is cranked snug (lean) that primer won't work right. Last but not least your Needle inlet valve is stuck shut and or the fuel pump diaphram little tabs are not sealing off chambers in carb on fuel pump side. make sure your fuel lines are properly hooked up to the right spots. when you push primer bulb it should squirt gas into the fuel tank, then when you release it ,it should draw fuel from the tank through the filter and thru the carb and then out to tank.

I have a 21c grass trimmer. I'm not getting gas to

Probabbly have a bad fuel line. If theres any holes in the line it will just **** air and cant create suction to pull fuel into it. If its not in the line check the prime ball itself. If there is a hole in it it wont work either.

I've got gas (mixture) but it will not start. I haven't changed the spark plug yet but it will be done today. I took the sparkplug out and then plugged it in and tried starting it to see if it...

Spray some ether (starting fluid) in the carb
If it starts you have a fuel problem if not more likely an ignition issue.
Pressing the primer bulb you should see gas flow through both lines if not it could be a clogged filter located at the end of one of the hoses inside the fuel tank, or a leak that doesn't allow the primer to draw gas.
Dirty gas plays havoc on small carbs.
I've fixed a number of "non-starters" by removing and disassembling the carbs and soaking them in clean gas for 10 minutes then blowing out the ports with small engine carb cleaner

Right fuel mix spark but wont start..priming bulb stays down-doesnt pop up. trimmer wont start.clean air filter too.

Your carburetor is plugged. What's happening, is the carb can't get fuel via the normal means, so it's trying to draw it through the primer system instead. This will require disassembly, likely a new diaphragm, and cleaning.

The jet in the carburetor is clogged if it is a 4 cycle unit or the diaphragms are stiff if in a 2 cycle unit. It is burning the primed fuel but can not draw any more fuel to burn to stay running.

Ryobi 790r gas trimmer

I can think of three possible causes that would be a good place to start looking:
- clogged tank ventilation, causing vacuum in the tank during use (check for this when opening the gas tank cap, you should hear a "suction sound" and the engine should prime and start afterwards)
- clogged fuel filter
- fuel filter/ fuel hose is not moving freely inside the gas tank causing it to **** air in some operating positions.

Good luck!
