Hello, welcome to FixYa.

Based on your post, it is likely nothing very serious, but the "resolve" requires some more investigation on your part. The lights indicate an overfill has occurred, saying that I suspect it is actually the drain motor you hear operating constantly.

**before proceeding turn the dishwasher power off via the home breaker panel, or unplug it from the wall if that is possible...most are hard wired to the home electrical...safety first**

The first thing to do is remove the toe panel/kick plate and inspect the base for water. If water is present, with the aid of a sponge, towels, or a wet-dry shop vacuum, absorb the water from the base...

**it should be known that if you leave the unit for a few days, the water in the base will evaporate hence appearing as everything is fine again...if a problem/leak does exist it will return.**

If the unit works fine after resetting the power/breaker and soaking up any water present, it can likely be chalked up to a drain back-up or obstruction in the drain hose or pump...
(it could mean a faulty drain pump so you'll need to pay close attention the next few times you run it)

...If not, there are a couple of other possibilities that I'd focus on.

**Again insure power to the unit is off**

The first is the float and subsequently, float switch. If you've removed the service panel at the bottom, or toe plate, you need to locate the float and it's switch. It will be located directly behind where your main electrical junction is.

Once you've located the float behind the main connection plate, you should see something like this image below,

i.e.
The dishwasher has the normal and economy wash - macmarkus_6.jpg

With the aid of a long screwdriver or if you can reach it, move the float up and down and listen closely for the switch to "click", indicating it is indeed functioning. Restore power again, and see if this resolves the issue, if not try this next...

The pressure switch too can cause the drain/outlet pump to run constantly, t
he pressure switch is the component which controls the normal fill level and the overfill detection...pre float activation. The float is primarily the last ditch safety to prevent disaster in the event of a overflow, back-flow, or leak underneath the unit to service or call for service to the unit.

It too is located under the machine and is mounted to the sump well assembly as shown, the large arrow indicates the switch while the small is the hose.
i.e.

macmarkus_7.jpg

The issue often can be just the hose going to the switch is clogged with debris such as dirt, detergent buildup etc and will be remedied by blowing it out.

The best way to do this is to remove this hose at the switch in the location indicated above, be very careful as to not break the hose off with the part of the switch inside, they can be delicate.

I typically work it loose with a tiny screw driver gently working it away from the switch. Once removed, pour a small amount of hot water, white vinegar or "CLR" through the sump from within the tub...or you can try blowing it through with "lung power".

The other end of the hose is located at the back of the sump well and is quite vulnerable to blockages over time due to detergents, dirt, and such.

This is the location...do not break this or you will need to replace the entire sump well...no fun.

Large arrow is pointing back to pressure switch, small indicates connection to sump well, sorry for the poor quality...it's hard to get in there with a camera phone, ha ha !The dishwasher has the normal and economy wash - macmarkus_8.jpg>i.e.

Hope this helps move you forward, or even better resolves the issue altogether. Let me know of course, I will help you move further if necessary. Good luck.

Regards,

Macmarkus :)

The normal and economy lights are blinking and cannot get to wash through a full cycle. water is in the bottom of the washer

You will have to check if the dishwasher is stuck in the drain cycle or wash cycle.

The normal and economy lights flashing means there is flooding in the unit.

Reset the unit by pressing START button for 4 secs. If the flashing does not stop then you have to call the technician. There may be a leakage which is causing the flood switch to activate.

I need to know what the buttons say on the dishwasher. Mine have no letters

Hi,

Some SHX46 washers have 4 wash cycle buttons and others have 5. The button on the left side on top of the door is the start/stop button regardless of how many wash cycle buttons you have.

If you have 5 cycle buttons, reading from left to right they will be as follows.

1. Top Rack Only / Sanitize
2. Power Scrub Plus - (Long wash for heavy soil)
3. Regular Wash - (Economy wash for light to medium soil)
4. Delicate Wash - (Shorter wash at a lower temperature for delicate items)
5. Rinse & Hold.

These buttons are also used for cancelling a wash cycle. Hold down buttons 2 and 4 (Power Scrub Plus and Delicate) at the same time to cancel a wash cycle and drain the water out.

If your washer does have 4 buttons, it means you don't have a Top Rack / Sanitize cycle, in which case the button configuration - from left to right - will be:

1. Power Scrub Plus - (Long wash for heavy soil)
2. Regular Wash - (Economy wash for light to medium soil)
3. Delicate Wash - (Shorter wash at a lower temperature for delicate items)
4. Rinse & Hold.

With this button configuration, the cancel cycle buttons are 1 and 3.

I hope this solves your problem. If you need any additional information, please post back.

Regards,
BElectric

Kenmore dishwasher ultra was quiet guard 3 model 56516012403 control panel will not activate red lights blinking on normal wash and cancel drain. did the hold the heat dry button then the normal wash...

that would be model # 66516012403 correct??
you may have inadvertently set the lock on function..
check this out from your manual...

Lock On
Use the Lock On to prevent unintended use of the dishwasher
between cycles. You can also use the lock feature to prevent
unintended cycle or option changes during a cycle.
When LOCK ON is lit, all buttons are disabled.
NOTE: The dishwasher door can be opened while the controls
are locked. However, the lock must be turned off and the Start/
Resume button pressed to resume the cycle.
To turn on the Lock
Press and hold HEATED DRY for 4 seconds. LOCK ON glows.
If you press any pad while your dishwasher is locked, the light
flashes 3 times.
NOTE: If the Heated Dry option is selected, the light will
temporarily turn off until Lock On glows.
To turn off the Lock
Press and hold HEATED DRY for 4 seconds. The light turns off.

hope this helps,
best of luck,
ttfn

Miele g892 and just like everyone the red light comes on and dishwasher stops running> why cant you answer thic common problem>

The red light tell you there is a fault. You have to read the fault code and it will give you a general idea of the problem - to do this you have to enter the service mode of operation - close the door and turn the dishwasher on.
The Start/Stop light must be blinking. If the Start/Stop light is not blinking, press and hold
the Start/Stop button for at least 3 seconds to exit the cycle. The Start/Stop light should now be blinking.

Press and hold the Start/Stop button while turning the dishwasher on. Release the
Start/Stop button and immediately press it 2 more times. Flashing Intake/Drain and
Salt lamps and a lit Rinse lamp indicates successful accessing of services mode

Kenmore elite dishwasher 665 15962990

Hold down the "HEATED DRY" button for 4 seconds to unlock.
Try to press these botton in sequence,Heated Wash, Heated Dry, Heated Wash, Heated Dry.release your hand, the unit will go into diagnostic mode. that is all leds will ON for a few seconds, and start normal operations.
If that does not work, you might need to check the electronic control board if the ribbon is seated properly.
Finally solution, is to change the electronic control board.

All the lights are flashing on Maytag Quiet Series 300

Try pressing heated wash, heated dry, then heated wash, heated dry. It should reset it. Also try pressing and holding the cancel button for 5 seconds to see if that works if the other doesnt.
