You can purchase a cheap band online or in the store and use the strap from there. I'd also check ebay and similar sites for a cheap band. They aren't that expensive and worth the money to avoid the hassle.

If you plan on doing this yourself, find a nice heavy pair of needle nose pliers and put the ends in the knotches on the casing back. Have them as far apart from each other as you can and turn counter-clockwise. If you still have problems opening, put the watch in a vise with the lugs in the teeth of the vise. DO NOT tighten too hard or you will snap the lugs. It dosn't have to be tight , just enough to hold the watch while you turn the back.
