Question about Edirol Roland V-440 HD Multi-Format Video Mixer V-440HD

1 Answer

We have been running Mac computers through the RGB inputs of our Edirol V-440HD for roughly 5yrs and ever since a certain software update from the Mac OS (about a yr or more ago), the colors of images and video being sent from the computer are drastically muddied and darkened. (greys and other dark colors become black... like over contrasted) But if I run direct to my projectors and other output devices individually and bypass the Roland, they're completely fine-native colors. I have an OLD Mac running through it now that didn't receive the software update and it seems to be fine, yet this particular comp is old and needs replacing. I realize it does point to an update from the Mac OS, but it still is somehow being misinterpreted by the switcher ONLY.

Hi, well yes you indeed seem to have a great understanding of the problem. The only real way to make it work, is to "Roll-it-back" to a time prior to that "Update".

My advise and what I would do, is backup all my data and settings and then reinstall the operating system, and then, apply all updates etc, up to the one that is causing the problems, in fact if it worked ok, from the outset, perhaps it would be better to simply leave it as it is, and use it without any updates. As updates are usually only bought out to address an "Issue" that may affect certain things, and if the system is stable and working, they can on the most part be ignored. unless of course one has the "issue". So the doing of what I suggested should enable you to return your system to a functioning state.

Software can and indeed does alter the output from the video card, so in effect the "Fix" is simple, remove the offending software.

Do not get MIDI signal via EDIROL UA25

Midi is data only, there is no actual sound to the midi tracks themselves. They need to be assigned to either a software synth or an external synth to actually make the sounds you want to hear.

For instance if you load a demo of a midi sequance you will need to add a software synth such as the TTS-1 or Roland sound canvas which are general midi compatable and will play the instruments sounds assigned to the demo's midi channels. Use the Synth Rack feature in Sonar to open one of them. Then you will need to assign the output of each of the midi tracks to that particular synth and you will get sound. Make sure to assing the synth's audio track to you UA-25 as its audio output.

I would suggest reading in the manual and following the tutorials included in the manual to get yourself familier with how this is all done. spacer.gif

Edirol UA-25 not working on Mac OS X

I had the same problem. When I installed the Edirol software it prompted to 'reboot' and when it restarted all the lights on the Edirol came on.
Why don't you try it like that.
Hook up the Edirol Install the software Reboot
Best of luck Victoria

Edirol Fa66 Problem

I bought the FA-66 because I use Cakewalk Sonar and they sell this interface on the Cakewalk site with thier name on it. I've had nothing but problems with this unit as described above. I've tried it on two different computer and it does not work on either. I also use an RME Fireface 800 on both these machines, same set up and it works flawlessly. Drop the Edirol/Roland FA-66 and try something else like an RME card or something. That would be my suggestion. It's a shame Cakewalk promots this piece of garbage. I've tried Edirol/Roland technical support and the guy just kept saying the sound card works fine, like it was just my problem.

Latency and EDIROL PC-50

The main cause of latency is your hardware. What kind of soundcard do you have? If you are using the one that came with your computer then that is your problem, no matter how good or new your PC is, manufacturers like to save costs by using cheap motherboard mounted soundcards, I had exactly the same problem as you when I started using a MIDI keyboard with cubase.

I'd suggest buying a soundcard designed for audio applications, I use the M-Audio Fasttrack which you can pick up very cheaply nowadays. I have my latency down to around 1/20 second and as an added bonus I get a 1/4 input and an XLR input as well for recording.

A computer has line out and that means sound out from the computer to your speakers. A line out can also be connected to a recording device or a pair of speakers with an amp built in. Line in on a computer can be used to record audio from other equipment such as a Dj on his decks to record his set. It can also record audio from mp3 players etc. Line in can be used for mic's and also you can use mic in as well. To record any audio onto your computer use line in. Line out can also used for headphones and the mic will plug into mic in so you can talk online.
