Sounds like you could have a bad cold control, when you think it should be running open the fridge door and move the control to make it colder or warmer,if nothing happens tap near the control, sometimes when the control is failing it sticks inside and when you move it or tap it or hit the fridge it will work for that cycle.send the model number when you ask for answers so i can look up your machine and see what model you have and i can look up the parts you might need.if you open the fridge door and look up near the ceiling and on the right side you'll see a tag with the model and serial numbers just need the model number.

the cold control part number is 5303300027 and it's around 55 dollars, you have a damper in the fridge and a cold control for the freezer, when it sticks turn the control or tap it easy, you want to make sure this is your problem, also one more thing i want you to check is the defrost timer,if this is sticking this also could cause this, remove the bottom kick plate and on the left side you should see the timer, there's a knob on it that you can turn, when it sticks you can turn it slowly,if it comes on you'll know it's the timer, there's a clock in it and it will go into defrost, when it counts down after like 20 minutes it will click out of defrost but they sometimes stick.if it is the timer the part number is 215846602 and that's around 30 dollars, start with the timer you should only have to turn it just a few clicks,if it doesn't run check the cold control.hope this helps you find your problem and if you can let me know what you find, thanks.

one more thing, you say when you hit it up on the freezer side, there's an evap fan motor that starts to run when the machine isn't in defrost, when the compressor starts some are quiet, are you sure it's just not the fan that isn't running or do you hear the compressor start also.just wanna run this by you.i've seen this happen before, the person doesn't hear the evap fan start and they think the compressor isn't running.

  • Anonymous May 22, 2011

I can hear the compressor start up..as soon as I smack it...I pulled the cold control and tested voltage to it while running....unplugged unit and plugged it back in..when I heated up the tstat rod sensor.
It still wouldn't come on. I then gently tapped the cold control and fan and compressor fired right up....thank u so much for your help..I think we've got this one nailed down...I really appreciate it

  • Sal De May 22, 2011

most of the time it's the control but the timer is on that side and i just wanted to be sure it was the control, good detective work lol, glad i could help you out,if you ever have anymore problems with your appliances, let me know and i'd be happy to help

Until now this unit has never had the compressor run without the fan. Is the compressor running without the fan a problem? If so, what can I do to correct it?

Possibly a tstat issue. Run system until satisfied, once satisfied indoor fan shuts down compressor still runs remove tstat face plate and see if compressor shuts down. Another issue could be a sticking contactor for compressor. With a meter you could check at the contactor to see if you lose your 24volts for cooling but contactor remains pulled in.

My frige & freezer do not cool at all, lights & freezer fan work, compressor & coil fan do not

Hello Friend, this is Z. Thank you for allowing me to assist you!

Based on the symptoms you are describing, it sounds like your refrigerator could have floating restriction in the line or something more complicated like an issue with the sealed system that only a professional can repair. This can include the compressor not working, the evaporator fan not turning, or even coolant in the lines at incorrect levels to properly cool. It is typically normal to hear the compressor running, humming, or even to be a little warm. However, if you do not hear the compressor at all, I suggest cleaning your refrigerator out including the coils you can reach (typically located in the bottom behind the toe grille) and make sure no food items are blocking any vents in your appliance. Also try checking and see if the door seal is bad; place a dollar bill between the body of the freezer and the door. Now close the door. The dollar bill should stay in place and pull out with a small amount of resistance. If the dollar bill falls out when placed between the gasket and cabinet double check to see if the door is being blocked by anything stopping it from closing. If any of these suggestions prove to be ineffective, connect with a professional to accurately pinpoint any potentially more serious issues. Best! - Chris

how old is your model you have. a weak pump will make the system slower to get to temp even a broken seal can do this. even just a few mil gap can make it do this. if you close the door then re-open it it should be harder to open the door. this is the seal being nice and tight to its fittings.

The temperature in the frige and freezer is 10 degrees above what it should be. All thermostats are on high

The door might not be sealing well but I'd rather put my money on compressor/freon problem - especially if you hear the compressor running for a long time (almost constantly). If you're lucky your fridge will only need to be refilled with freon.
