Ge TFX24S refrigerator does not get cold enough

Your Defrost electrical element (heater) is blown, you will need to buy a new defrost heater. Your evaporator coils in your freezer section is froze up (no air flow)...soild ice, thus you're not cooling down properly. You will need to defrost and then underneath the coils you'll find the glass tube with defrost heating will need to replace this part (entire glass heating element)'s DIY fairly easy to get at.

The refrigerator is a GE TFX24JRSAAD, the back panel in the freezer compartment freezes over and will not freeze the food while the refrigeration side is COOL but will not adjust any cooler.

That is a key sign of a defrost problem. GE has a defrost timer located at the upper left side of the ref . At the same time GE has glass defrost heaters that are behind the freezer wall tat will burn out. My personal advice would be to change out both the heaters and the control board to save yourself the headache of going through this again. The part numbers are :wr51x0344 for the heaters and wr09x048 for the timer. You can order these parts at

I have a ge side by side model tfx24s the freeze is leaking and i removed the lower tray and seen a coil get glowing red is that common

Yes, the glowing red would be the defrost heater doing it's job. (it usually is on for maybe 20 minutes once or twice a day to defrost the coils) There is a drain hole, about the size of a quarter at the center, just below the defrost heater which can block up, causing the defrost water to flow out onto the freezer floor and eventually out the freezer door. Use a turkey baster with hot (not boiling) water to flush the drain open. If you can't reach the drain, try a section of tubing pushed onto the end of the turkey baster to add a flexible extention to your reach. The defrost water normally drains into a pan under the refrigerator where it will evaporate.

I have a GE side by side model gss221fphww.The freezer is icing up and the refrigerator part is not cooling well.

johnnybur64, That is a typical sign that the defrost heater and defrost thermostat need to be replaced, Those models have very little problems with the motherboard section that tells the defrost to come on. Most times just those parts defrost heater=> WR51X10101 and defrost thermostat=> WR50X10068 will be all you will need. Unplug remove rear panel and defrost with a hairdryer to speed things up. When that defrost heater burns out you can see it easily through the glass tubes, I always replace the defrost thermostat because it is cheap insurance that you will not need to go back inside. You also can find these parts here=> GE Artica Profile Technical Information

My GE profile side by side refrigerator's temperature is not staying where I put it. It keeps popping to 31 degrees when I set it for 37 degrees. My food is freezing !!

It may need to defrost. Shut it off for 4-5 hours to let any accumulated ice to defrost and see what happens.

There also is a control that directs more cooling to the refridgerator or the freezer compartment. It may need to be readjusted. It will take 24 hours to stabilize.

GE side by side fridge not cooling, can't adjust temp control

Most likely it's not defrosting, many GE fridges need new defrost heaters every couple of years.

Water line

There is such an adapter. I use them all the time. They come in water valve replacement kits that are available for Maytag and Amana units. They're not always used so there are lots of spares lying around. Check with your local appliance parts dealer. When replacing the line keep it away from the heat!
