Hello
It is best to use a yagi antenna. It is highly directional, but if direction is in right way, it will give you best clarity picture. The signal strength will be greater than other type of antennas. OK.

I can't get my swr to go down on my general lee cb radio

what kind of antenna do you have? Does it have antenna adjustment screws on it or is it a fiberglass antenna? If it is an adjustable antenna you have to raise the whip or lower it depending on what you have for a reading . Use an external SWR meter, don't go by the one on the radio, that's just for quick reference .Get the match down to at least 1.5 - 2 and you are good but now, if its a fiberglass antenna ,some have an adjustment screw others don't. If it doesn't have a screw on the tip and you have to shorten the antenna you will have to trim off some of the tip but if you have to lengthen it you may want to add a spring at the bottom connection to your mount.

I have a old raymarine c80 navigation sometimes it gives me a fix when i turn it on and sometimes it will not. Do i need a new antenna if so what kind.

The issue is related to the antenna, either bad connection, low voltage or faulty gps. Start by checking the voltage supplied to the antenna (most probably through SeaTalk from the plotter), if you find this to be 11V or bellow - beef it up by adding external 12V. You can also check the wiring, if all looks ok - it is time to get a new gps antenna. Raymarine has a retrofit pack for the new RS130 which also includes SeaTalk ng converter. With some luck it's only the power...

My radio wont stay playing it keeps cutting in and out like wires are wiggling even when not moveing any ideas

Hi there,
You need to check the connection of your car radio to the external antenna for reception issues. Ensure that your speakers are also well connected and your tuning knob is not broken.

Thanks & Kind Regards

I presume that you wish to connect an external antenna/aerial to a portable radio with no antenna connection. Wind several turns of your antenna wire around the telescopic antenna - should work ok!

you should see it now
There is a known hardware bug in the Garmin 600 series relating to the detection of the connection of an external antenna. The GPS is supposed to do this automatically and when it detects an external antenna plugged in it switches out the internal antenna. Unfortunately, this circuitry doesn't work correctly in some versions of the unit and sometimes it get's comfused and thinks there is an external antenna connected when there is not. This causes the behavior you describe because, for all practical purposes, there is no antenna connected.

Garmin can fix this and they've been known to fix it even on units that are out of warranty. There is a fix that can be done by someone with the right equipment and know-how which requires disassembling the unit and bypassing the antenna switch. Not to be attempted by anyone not experienced in micro surface mount PCB re-work.

Toshiba

There are no connectinos for an external antenna on your laptop model sorry.here is a picture of what it looks like though: The connectors at the top for the antenna cables. If you know someone that is an electronics guru, then order another card ( just in case ) for about $15 + shipping, and have him/her connect
those wires to a TMC or SMA connector somehow. Otherwise,.. just buy a good quality USB Wi-Fi adapter with an external antenna. ( which wouldn't cost much more than the spare Toshiba card and less if you figure in what a good dB gain antenna costs)
