Question about toshibadirect.com

Printing from a computer, get paper jam, clear it, then the printing sarts over from zero again, so get too many copies. Any fix in the software? The counter on the machine doesn't operate when printing from a computer via USB.

Thank you, and what you say is true. But when it happens somewhere through a run of 200 the counting of printed sheets becomes more than a little laborious. This effect also occurs when paper or toner run out. This is not mentioned in the manual, but I will do my best to make users of the machine aware of it. It's a pity the counter isn't operative when ther machine is used as a printer, neither on the machine nor on the computer. But I guess that there isn't going to be a software fix. Good job we're a church with voluntary labour!

You can work this around by using a little manual labor. Whenever the paper jams and doesnt continue from previous page, you can unplug the printer from the electricity. (not just the on/off button). This way it loses the document that was printing from the memory. Then you can send the doc for printing again by designating which pages to print.
ex. if your document was stopped at the 12 pg and it has 20 pages.. go to print> and then choose which pages to print i.e. 13-20.
I hope this helps.

I completely understand your pain, trust me. I used to work for a graphic design and printing company, and this was all i did all day long - had "fun" with a lot of printers. :) they just go bad for no obvious reason. I will try to help you further on, give me the brand and model of the printer and i will see if i can find something more helpful. You can always try to ask the manufaturer's customer service, their tech support might be helpful. Or even if it's still under warranty, you can ask them to send a technician to look at it, or have it replaced all together.

The machine is a Toshiba e-studio 166, basically a photocopier but you can also use it as a printer from a computer via USB- there is a driver for this. In this use there is no operational counter on the machine or on the computer. When there is a jam OR paper out OR toner out the machine will start over from the beginning of the print run after the 'error' has been cleared.. Yes, I have had to count the copies to determine where it had got to but this is tedious in a run of 200+ (Luckily we are a church so the labour is voluntary!). It seems the softyware designers didn't care about the machine being used as a printer but I wondered if there was an update which took this into account or a fix to overcome the problem. Thanks for your helpful suggestion. Past midnight here- time for bed! Seares2006

    Hello again,
There are some compatibility issues with Windows 7 and Vista. This was originally only compatible with XP. There's a new "viewer" driver at the support page. >>HERE<<
Try to install that latest driver it was released 10/25/10. If you have it already, reinstall it.
if it doesn't help, it could be an issue with the maximum capacities.
then, what is the error code it gives you?? you can see this code this way:
when the printer starts flashing "call for service" you need to press 0 and 8 at the same time and hold. the service menu will come up. Let me know what the error code is.

Is there another way to stop unwanted copies from being printed if the reset/stop button does not work?

If printing from your computer...yes. Go to the cancel print function on your computer and cancel the print. That will stop more copies being printed once you have hit cancel.

Otherwise you would need to switch the power off to the machine and remove any paper. Then turn it on again and play with the controls until you can clear the print memory back to zero.

Check if there is a reset, or clear message function. or you may try this one:

1. With the printer turned on, if there is a door for the cartridge, open it.
2. Then, if there is a "Go" button, "Print", "Copy" button, press and hold it for 10 sec.
3. Close the cartridge door or cover. Turn it off then turn it on again.

Please advise what will be the result.

thanks

Paper jam

I have had this problem, and have became very furiated.

Clear the Jam by removing and paper you see in from the rear access door.
If you are printing something from a PDF website....... make sure to have it still in the printer schedule.... It will still say printer jam..... but have it there regardless if its something you dont want to have to retype into the pdf form........ After that simply restart your computer. It should resume printer as soon as your computer boots up.....

Worked for me..... Hope this helps everyone else whos probably cursing your printer at the moment!!!!

PAPER JAMS

Does the fault clear when you open/close? If it does you probably don't have a jam.
Does the machine begin to try to make copies, then stop-if so it has probably failed to feed off the tray, hence the jam message. If this is the case, pull out the paper tray, check for obstructions, clean feed rollers and try again. Are there "skid marks on the paper(indicating the rolls have turned?) If so rolls could be dirty/worn. If no skid marks, can you determine if the rolls did in fact turn? Go from there
