Hello,
1.If there's a cd or dvd in the cd/dvd drive, remove it and try booting again.
2.press DEL at the start up screen to go into BIOS. go into BIOS and change the boot sequence options, set it to boot from the hard drive.

Why Dell inspiron 6400 LCD screen goes blank when I unplug the ac adapter from laptop?

  1. Restart the computer.
  2. As the computer boots, press <F12>
  3. when the Dell Splash Screen appears.
  4. At the One Time Boot menu, press the <Down> arrow key to highlight Diagnostics and press <enter>
  5. A graphical menu listing all discovered devices in the system is now displayed and the express diagnostics should run (Takes about 4 minutes).
This will test the hardware on your computer.
I am thinking it could be the battery but this is just to be sure.

Dell latitude E/6400 blank screen worked yesterday

run the dell diagnostic by turning the laptop on and tapping F12 key when you see the Dell logo
keep pressing F12 to enter the Boot Menu
* When the boot device list appears, highlight Diagnostics and press Enter
* The computer begins to run the Pre-boot System Assessment, a series of embedded diagnostics that perform initial testing on your system board, keyboard, hard drive, and display
* If the Pre-boot System Assessment completes successfully, you receive the message Booting Dell Diagnostic Utility Partition
* Press any key to continue
* Press any key to start the Dell Diagnostics from the Diagnostics utility partition on your hard drive
* After the Dell Diagnostics loads and the Main Menu screen appears, click the button for the option you want to run -
Express Test = Performs a quick test of devices. The test typically takes 10 to 20 minutes and requires no interaction on your part
Extended Test = Performs a thorough check of devices. The test typically takes 1 hour or more and requires you to answer questions periodically
Custom Test = Tests a specific device. You can customize the tests to be run
Symptom Tree = Allows you to select tests based on a symptom of the problem you are experiencing
* When you have finished running a test, close the screen to return to the Main Menu screen. To exit the Dell Diagnostics and reboot the computer, close the Main Menu screen

during the test it will beep and display colored bars then ask your if the colored bars were displayed. to press Y for yes and N for no

this test the graphics/video chip on the computer to see if the hardware is working.

You can also connect it to an external monitor like a monitor that comes with a pc.Then press and hold the "FN" key and press the F8 (CRT/LCD) key to toggle the external monitor. if the image is displayed in the monitor then it can be a lcd screen or lcd inverter in laptop.

hope that helps

Spot screen

Hello

First find an external monitor to test if its the screen on your laptop or the graphics chip in your laptop. If you have an external monitor then hook it up to your laptop and toggle the video over to see if you still see the spot.If it only shows on the laptop screen the Replace the screen.
Another thing you can do is run the built in Diagnostics
Diagnostics before windows using the F12 Diagnostics
* Reboot and press F12 to enter the Boot Menu
To exit the Dell Diagnostics and reboot the computer, close the Main Menu screen.

When running diagnostic for Dell computer was given error code OF00:1A44. I ran the diagnostic becasue I was unable to get past the blue screen in Windows - error there is Unmountable_boot_volume.

Boot to the XP CD, Enter recovery console by pressing "R" at the 1st prompt, run the command CHKDSK /P and see if the system will boot normally after the command finishes running. If nothing changes, then the hard drive will need replacement

Blank screen when powered on.

Do you have any CD’s that came with your laptop? If so, look for one that has “Diagnostics and utilities” listed under the “Contents”. To boot from that CD disk, power on your laptop and tap the <F12> key to bring you to the “One time boot menu”. Insert the CD and then select CD/DVD drive and hit <Enter> key. You can also boot from the Windows reinstallation disk. If the computer boots from either CD, then your Operating System is corrupted and needs to be reloaded.
