Mechanical error means that there is a problem with the mechanics that spin CD and move the lens pickup.
When this happens usually yo need to take the unit apart, inspect mechanics, test motor, eventually replace or disassemble faulty mechanics and assemble unit back.
This is a job that is better done by a technician at a repair shop.

A simple operation that you can do is unplugging power cord for two minutes, this sometimes reset the unit and temporarily clear the error.

At the end of owner manual you find a support phone number. Check also your guaranty terms.

Just clean the lens in your dvd player ........

You should also try a hard reset..... Just make sure the power is totally removed for at least 30 minutes, then power
it up again and see if it clears........Most likely the optical tracking has failed and the
disc is not being read by the laser beam..... This is caused by either the laser diode
going bad or the tracking system too far out of adjustment.....

It plays CDs, but not DVDs even after the laser lens cleaner that fixed my home theater dvd. When you load in a dvd, it clicks three times, says load, clicks three more times, then has disk error message....

Time to get a new one, probably. The laser for DVDs is different for CDs so the DVD laser or a component in that section has probably failed and at today's prices, get a new player with morre features for less than you paid for this one. You can keep it for CD playing. The fact that it plays CDs means most of the player works except the DVD laser circuit. You might look at the lasers with a magnafying glass (Unplug for 1 hour before that look) to see if you can see the 2 laser lenses and one is dirty. Not very likely fixable but it is a free try. Good luck.

I nudged the loading tray with my foot when changing a disc. As a result the tray is not opening or closing, presumably because it is no longer aligned properly. Is this likely to be something I might fix...

Mechanical timing and alignment is the problem of your dvd player.
This comes when you accidentally force the disc tray to close.
You need to open the cover of the dvd player..take out the dvd mechanical loading system try to eject it manually by turning the gear with your hand.
Make sure that the cd loader reaches the limit switch before it closes. This will return back the right timing and alignment.

hi,
in dvd player this problem can occur when there is a problem with the spindle motor. it will not rotate at the required RPM for cds. just check the spindle motor. if available replace it and try again.

DVD tray makes noise when it rotates

This noise can be casued by two things:

1) The tray is not completely in the loaded position and the "clamper" is rubbing. Replace the loading belt and the loading sequence will complete and the noise should stop.

2) The "CD table" that is part of the spindle motor assembly has slipped a bit. This will make the CD/DVD ride too low and strike the lower tray support. This will require that the table be "re-aligned" to the proper height which may not be possible on your model without special measurement equipment. The height is critical to proper operation of the unit.

Try replacing the load belt first and report your results.

Thanks,
Dan

Denon 3910 won't load some dvds/cds and vibrates while trying.."disc error"!

I have the Denon 2900 (about 4 years of use) and until recently, suffered from the same (growing) problem. CD's were very difficult to start/read. I recently found advice which I tried and was succesful with. It was manually cleaning the laserlens. I took away the outer housing by unscrewing all off the on top (6), side (4) and the back (2) bolts. After that I took out the top plate of the laserunit which took two very little screws taking out. Now you are looking at the cd-tray with the lens. Take a very soft and clean cloth and moisten it a little bit with clean water (be very carefull with the moistening, don't allow any waterdrop to come out of the cloth into the laserlens while cleaning! Carefully clean the lens and dry it with a dry part of the same cloth. Replace the top plate and the outer housing and the player will recognize the discs like it's new again. Good luck! Portable dvd player will play music cds but not video dvds

Chances are, your DVD player uses one laser to read CDs, and a different laser to read DVDs (since Cds and DVDs are read at different wavelenghts of light). If the DVDs you're trying to watch work properly in other DVD players, it probably means that the DVD laser is dirty, damaged, or burned out. Though you can try cleaning the laser (use Google for suggestions on how to do this, or check the Audiovox website), you will most likely have to get the DVD player repaired, or buy a replacement. Many of the newer CD/DVD players sold today use a single combination laser, which reads both CDs and DVDs, which means that when the laser fails, it will not work at all. Wish I had better news for you, but I guess that the only consolation you have is that your Audivox player still works with CDs...
