How to fix a NTLDR is missing error

Fixes for NTLDR Errors
  1. Restart the PC. The NTLDR error could be a fluke.

  2. Check your floppy and optical (CD/DVD/BD) drives for media and disconnect any external drives. Often times, the "NTLDR is Missing" error will appear if your PC is trying to boot to a non-bootable floppy disk, CD/DVD/BD, or external hard drive or flash drive.

Note: If you find that this is the cause of your problem and it's happening a lot, you might want to consider changing the boot order in BIOS so the hard drive with Windows installed is listed first.

  3. Check the hard drive and other drive settings in BIOS and ensure they are correct. The BIOS configuration tells the computer how to use a drive so incorrect settings can cause problems, including NTLDR errors.

Note: There is usually an Auto setting for hard drive and optical drive configurations in BIOS which is usually a safe bet if you're not sure what to do.

  4. Restore the NTLDR and ntdetect.com files from the Windows XP CD. Restoring these two important system files from the original Windows XP CD may do the trick.

  5. Repair or replace the boot.ini file. This will prevent the NTLDR error if the cause of the problem is a boot.ini file that is not configured properly for your Windows XP installation.

  6. Write a new partition boot sector to the Windows XP system partition. If the partition boot sector has become corrupt or isn't properly configured, you may receive the "NTLDR is Missing" error.

  7. Repair the Windows XP master boot record. NTLDR error messages may also appear if the master boot record is corrupt.

  8. Reseat all internal data and power cables. NTLDR error messages could be caused by loose or malfunctioning IDE cables.

Try replacing the IDE cable cable if you suspect it might be faulty.

  9. Update your motherboard's BIOS. Occasionally, an outdated BIOS version can cause the "NTLDR is Missing" error.

  10. Perform a repair installation of Windows XP. This type of installation should replace any missing or corrupt files. Continue troubleshooting if this does not resolve the issue.

  11. Perform a clean installation of Windows XP. This type of installation will completely remove Windows XP from your PC and install it again from scratch. While this will almost certainly resolve any NTLDR errors, it is a time consuming process due to the fact that all of your data must be backed up and then later restored.

If you can't gain access to your files to back them up, understand that you will lose them all if you continue with a clean installation of Windows XP.

  12. Replace the hard drive and then perform a new installation of Windows XP. If all else has failed, including the clean installation from the last step, you're most likely facing a hardware issue with your hard drive.

I have recently upgraded my Mac from OS 10.4 to 10.6.7. Since then I am no longer able to save my daily back up on MYOB Accounting (Version 16.12). The 'save as' box appears with the details of...

Sometimes when systems are updated disk permissions can get out of sync which can cause problems. What I would do is go to the utilities in the applications folder, open disk utility and click on your hard drive in the left hand box and then click on verify disk permissions button and once run, then if anything has come up click on repair disk permissions. Hope this helps.

Unique customer Registration for MYOB Plus 11 I used MYOB 7 for years, and it worked all the way up to Windows 7 - now it won't even start. Its time to leave. I have a copy of MYOB Plus 11 that seems to...

Or, just get a version of windows 7 (look for "Windows Anytime Upgrade" on your computer) that can run a virtual XP machine (Pro or Ultimate versions), then download and install the virtual PC hyper-viser kernal and the XP Mode virtual machine.

Next, install your old copy of MYOB 7 into the XP mode virtual machine, copy your data files, and it should work....

EXPLANATION OF "WHY": MYOB 7 was actually meant to run on windows 95/98 machines, and this wasn't a problem in XP, because it could run a program that would basically emulate all of the win95/95 API's, under which MYOB 7 could run. Starting with windows vista, those old API's and emulation programs were basically tossed. Running the program under a virtual XP machine will give your old programs, like MYOB 7, access to those old API's. BTW, once the program is installed, it should auto register with windows 7. After which it will run in the win 7 interface almost as if it were a native program (will take longer to load as it has to load XP OS too).

One note, any custom forms (invoices, etc) may not work after copying them to the new installation of MYOB. Change their file attributes from Read Only (uncheck that box from within the files' properties dialog, via windows file explorer).

Oh, you'll definitely want as much RAM in your computer as you can get in there. XP mode will take a minimum of 512MB, but it'll be slow unless you set it up for at least a gig of ram.

Myob optimisation gives error in database 3000 5049 even on file that opens ok

MYOB suggestions
It appears that you have a corruption in the data file. This can only be corrected by the technical support team at MYOB. You will need to give them a call. At this time of year you could be on hold for quite some time. From memory a repair of a file is an additional cost to your MYOB subscription.

Another alternative would be to restore a previous backup and ensure that the backup does not have the same error and reenter the missing data.

'Print error #5'

MYOB requires that you have a default printer selected on your computer system. If no printer driver is installed, when opening a company file, a printer error #5 is displayed.

Highlight your Printer and go to File on then Menu bar/Set as default.and Turn off user account control if you're using vista. It's in your security center in the control panel. Turning this off should fix the printer error 5 issue .

Desktop icons disappear every few seconds and ....

It might be linked to Stuffit. Do you guys have Stuffit installed? There is a preference called Stuffit AVR (Archive Via Rename): In your system preferences go to the bottom and click on the Stuffit AVR option. Click the Stuffit AVR tab on the left, and click the "STOP" button. This should do the trick. For some reason this is cycling through our desktop/finder and causing so much of the frustration when you update your quicktime.

If that did not help or if you do not have Stuffit, try turning off Affloat.

Let me know if this helped!

Screen switches from application back to desktop

Open your System Preferences. Go to Dashboard & Expose. This is a very helpful application in my world. Whenever you want to see all the windows, hide windows, start screen saver, you just push your mouse into the appropriate corner. Sounds like you have a corner set and when you hit it, you trip the effect. Change the corner and check them out, Handy to use when you have multiple windows open. Experiment and see.

3. Select Never in the Convert text files to Macintosh format section, then click OK.
4. Re-extract the PDF file:
- If you're using StuffIt, drag the archive onto the StuffIt icon.
- If you're using Magic Menu, select the archive and then choose Expand from the Magic Menu.
- If you're using StuffIt Deluxe, press Control+Command while double-clicking the archive.
