One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect your hard drive boot up

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA

the leads from your ((motherboard to your hard drive)) make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty ?
one bad lead will end with a computer error a computer needs its connections continue its cycle and have an end to function
also run the chkdsk utility
click start run type cmd then type chkdsk/r/f which will scan for and attempt to repair any bad sectors and automatically fix any corrupt files on your hard drive or
click start control panel administrive tools, computer management ,disk management right click on your drive select properties click tools you should see click check now click start two boxes automatically fix files and scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors place then a tick in both boxes then select check now, start should schedule this task when restart
do not do anything while the chkdsk utility is in progress any input may damage your computer
then defragment your hard drive
hope this helps

My dell xps m170 laptop wont display anything but a blackscreen that says 'ERROR LOADING OPERATING SYSTEM.' What do i doi???!!!

Take it to a computer shop. It could be a number of things- dead Harddrive, corrupt operating system or a virus. Although it may be bad BIOS settings, but not likely. Sorry, Try it again before you do though.

My computer boots once and it reboots and it beeps with a orange light and does not display.

Hmph. Sounds like a boot issue. But for my standards, I write myself a checklist. I do this in order to keep track of all possible solutions. My Dell Optiplex GX280 can be a real pain. . I start with the way I am turning it on. Sometimes a system can be as finiky as a cat. Unplug the system from the wall. Then plug it back in. If it is on a shield wall jack that has a switch, if it is off, turn it on. from there. First, (when, and if it comes up), check through your boot system prompt. This usually takes the form of F2,or F1. If your system displays (cannot find harddrive), or shows a problem with the amount of space on your harddrive, make sure that you have backed up all your files before going any further. Also, check to see if your harddrive OS can find the correct place where your SYSTEM is located can find your system boot by selecting AUTO for your harddrive(s). It make it easier for your computer to find the OS system in which to bring your computer online. Second. Typically, (and depending upon your space on your harddrive), they tend to short you on your drive space. This will trigger your drive to shutdown, because it has run out of useable, writeable space. ALWAYS HAVE A BACKUP. If you can get into the actual BIOS, check and see if you have exceeded the harddrive space. Third. CLEAN OUT YOUR SYSTEM. Dust can cause havoc with your computer. Fourth. Check all your connections. Make sure that all your lines leading to your hardrive(s) are connected. Five. It is possible to have a hardrive failure. See if you can take it to a computer shop that you can trust to either retrieve the information on your harddrive, or install a new harddrive, and all of its drivers that prompt your programs to work.Six. TAKE PICTURES OF THE INSIDE OF YOUR COMPUTER. There are shops out there that will take out parts, and repackage them. Seven. Check your VIDEO CARD, as well as your wires. EITHER may need replacing.I hope this information is helpful, and can get your computer up, and running. :))

I have a Dell 530s Desktop. When I turned it on I get a Dell splash screen then it goes black. I can not even get anything to work thru the USB outlet. What could cause this

Have you check the BIOS if the harddrive is detected? You may want to use a working harddrive and check if harddrive cable is not loose or you can try to boot to a bootable disc just to isolate the issue.

Hope this helps.

You can possibly take that Harddrive out and put into another PC. Tell windows to check the HD and fix anything automatically. I have seen this problem resolved with performing a check disk.

I have a Dell computer which came with microsoft works 2003 recently my harddrive went out and a friend installed a new one for me. I can't get microsoft works 2003 to come up. it doesn't even show on...

does cd show any files, if yes then it should install it..
if not then might be possible that there is scratches or brakage in cd...
if not, then it should be install ...
moreover, check if ur system has any previous files there,
what about backup. did ur friend put the backup to your new harddriver..
if yes, then remove any files existing relavant to that...and then reinstall a fresh copy..
hope it will work.

dont forget to rate, if its functional

Operating system not found on any devices

well, it probably doesn't recognise that you have an operating system (if you do) because of possibly a corrupted installation...try reinstalling windows on your harddrive, but it's recommended to format anything on your harddrive before you reinstall windows....if you need to backup what you have on your harddrive, you could buy a casing for it so that you can make it external.
