Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Hey i have a HP laptop which is probly a few years old now and i went to turn my laptop on today and the screen would turn itself off just after the windows loading bar finishes loading. i can operate the computer in safe mode but not normally. i have a feeling it has something to do with the graphics card (which is a ATI radeon amd turion x2) but when i am in safe mode and i try to open ATI it comes up with a window saying "no ATI graphics driver is installed, or the ATI driver is not functioning properly. Please install the ATI driver appropriate for your ATI hardware." not too sure what to do now to get my computer running smoothly again. I have tried to reinstall the program as well but i get a window saying "Failed to load detection driver" and so i press OK and then another window pops up saying "failed to find any installable components!" press OK again and it finishes saying "Failures occurred during installation" If you could help me with this problem I would be very thankful. cheers, Coehn

If the Windows installation CD cannot detect the hard drive to install Windows then the hard disk could be faulty or it may only need reseating.
First - remove the hard drive and connect it back into the laptop.
2nd - Boot up the laptop and go into the BIOS configuration and check if the BIOS detects the hard drive.
If the hard drive is detected then proceed with the Windows installation.
If the hard drive is not detected in the BIOS then most likely the hard drive is faulty.
In this case you need to replace the hard drive before you can install Windows.

Any idea what's wrong with my laptop? The screen went black and wont turn on anymore. Was using it yesterday when it suddenly went black. Took the battery out and put it back a few times but all the...

Is the laptop an HP DV 2000, 6000, or 9000 series? If so you could be one of the many afflicted with a problem that caused many HP laptops to go poof. There was an issue with these series of laptops motherboards causing the screen to go black, and then not power on. There was a recall that made the manufacturers warranty a year longer (from 1 to 2 years) but that has long since passed. Since it is the main board of the computer, it's a several hundred dollar repair and is typically more expensive to repair than it would be to buy a new laptop.

Regardless of whether or not this is your issue, I would recommend re-seating the RAM or having someone who is familiar with computers do this for you. Basically by removing and re-inserting the RAM in the computer you ensure there is a snug fit as this could cause a similar problem.

If your laptop is more than 5 years old with all the new technology thats come along lately it's probably time to replace your old work horse. The cost of repairing an old laptop can be more than the cost of a new one.

it's probably is the motherboard, i have a hp pavilion zd8000 (yeah its old) & the exact same thing happens except that it doesn't turn on when i take the battery out. you might want to get some diagnostic's done on it to see if something is going bad. i think mine got to hot so this might help.

Laptop LCD goes black after a few seconds

Hello,

Yes, The pink tint is an indication that the backlight is failing. Now the backlight is basically dead, the best way to get back going is to do an Ebay search for your model laptop and get a new screen. Most screens can be purchased for around $50.00 - $70.00 and they are very easy to swap. Email me if you need more info.
