Try to plug into another usb port, otherwise try it in another computer and see if that works. Good luck!

Problem with ASUS P5QC Motherboard, cannot detect any usb device (hard discs). The lights on the devices show that there is power, but Windows 7 cannot 'see' them. Keyboard, mouse and usb stic

If same usb port work with other devices then suggest to check the disk management first then device manager. If it is not listed in disk management or you are not able to access it then open device manger and check under disk drives. If it is not listed in device manger then I suggest to test the external harddisk on another PC. If that also fails then you either have a bad hard disk.

Dell firmware for Seagate SAS harddisk

The firmware for any electronics device tells the hardware how to properly function.

Most devices rarely need a firmware upgrade, however, computer products such as a Seagate hard drive need to have the firmware updated periodically due to computers constantly going through operating system upgrades.

Luckily, you can update your Seagate hard drive firmware with an Internet connection and a few clicks of your mouse.

Connect your Seagate hard drive to your computer if the hard drive is external.

Launch your Internet browser and navigate to the Seagate.com website.

When the site loads click the "Downloads" button.

Click on the hard drive listing you currently own.

This brings up all of the most current downloads for your Seagate hard drive.

The listings of the hard drives have the image, so match your hard drive to the image online if you are not sure what drive you have.

The user manual states what hard drive you currently own also.

If you don't have your owners manual, open "My Computer" (or "Computer") and right-click the hard drive icon and select "Properties."

Here the computer states exactly what model of hard drive you have.

Click the Firmware update and click the "Download" button to launch the download.

Click-and-drag the file into the hard drive if you are using an external hard drive

(open "My Computer," then double-click the removable hard drive icon).

Open the downloaded file and follow the prompts to install the updated firmware.

Hope this helps

It's likely you now have a damaged partition. It's a common problem. If you don't care about the data just reformat.

Or you can try http://findandmount.com/

I need to hook up the external hard drive to my computer to get my favorites loaded back onto my computer. How do I do that?

Connect the external hard drive to your computer using a usb cable. Then go to 'my computer' on your pc, click it, you would see your external hard drive. Open it. Go to the location of your favourites on the hard drive. Right click on it. Select 'send to', then select 'my documents' to send it to your documents.
To unplug your hard drive, dont just pull it out. Go to the bottom right corner of your pc. Click on the notification icon. Hover the mouse pointer over each one of them till you see the one labelled 'safely remove external device'. Click on it, then click on your hard drive name. When you see displayed 'you can now safely remove external device', then unplug your cable from the pc and the drive. To access what you transfered to your pc from the hard drive, go to 'my documents'.

Hope that was helpful?
Have a wonderful day.

My computer doesn't recognize the SimpleDrive...

Hello jajogeglez,

You may need to use another USB device, be it another flash drive to narrow down if it's just your Simpledrive that's causing this.

You can also update the USB devices under your Device Manger using the CD driver for your motherboard.

Hope this helps.

Unable to open after initial "set-up".

When unplugging or removing external storage devices there is usually an icon in the lower right bar that is for "Safely Removing" devices.

Before shutting down WITH THE DEVICE INSTALLED you should click on this and remove the device IF you intend to start the machine without having it connected.

At this point, try to power down and reconnect and restart to get back to where you were.

I accidentally dropped my 350 GB WD Passport external hard drive and now my computer does not recognize it. Is it still repairable and can i recover the files stored there. Do you have a service center...

Try it another computer.

If it still fails, there are alot of online companies that will be able to retrieve the data for you- although Im guessing the drive its self will be unusable.

I cant get my computer to read my external drive

If your Operating System is Windows XP or Vista? Then disconnect the external hard drive and start the computer, and let windows load until at least a minute or two after your desktop appears then connect the External drive and open "My Computer" to see if the drive is shown there along with your internal Drive(s).
The above works to recognize lost external devices for me most of the time. Good luck.
