I'd suspect a poltergeist or a stray i/r source somewhere in your environment. You can prove the latter by blinding the receiver so it can't 'see' any remotes. Then just wait. If it behaves you have an unintended i/r source that it listens to. Security systems, garage door openers, sunlight...

How to play digital input

You need to assign a digital input (optical 1 2 or coaxial 1 2..) to a source (DVD CD etc). You can do it in setup menu > input assigment. Some receivers have preassigned inputs, check labels you your receiver next to digital input. Ex If it says "Opt1/DVD", select DVD and receiver will play a signal from optical 1 input.

I have a Marantz 7.1 AV receiver (sr5500) and I run a 5.1 set up for home theatre and use the 2 extra channels to run a pair of outdoor stereo speakers... When I first set it up I also found I could not get a digital signal output, only analog, after reading the manual(!) I discovered that it can only output an analog signal...so I have used the phono outputs on my blu-ray player into the CD input of the AV amp and play CDs outside through this and it also outputs the optical digital signal into the AV amp through the DVD input...my iPod also plays through a dock and it's analog output to the speakers outside through another (CD-R) anolog input on the amp... Hope this helps

No sound when dvd input is selected on onkio tx-ds696

Make sure your DVD setting is looking at the right audio inputs. Usually there is a menu option or a button to toggle from analog or digital input. Usually when no-sound but video ok, you have the wrong input-type selected. If you are using 2 RCS's (red/white) then you want ANALOG input mode. If you are usung a single RCA (orange) or a fiber optic input for audio, you want DIGITAL input selected. If digital os selected, make sure you plug into the correct digital input to hear. If it does not work at first, mofe the jack/fiber around into the different inputs untill you hear sound, then you will know which port is associated with the DVD setting. Unless it is self evident feom the menu.

Dvd plays can see picture but no sound

Check all your connections.
Also please let me know how you have it connected currently, what is the model of the dvd player and the television. Are you running through an AV receiver?
one ting to try is connecting ONLY the red and white audio connectors from teh dvdplayer to the correct input on the tv while it is on. if you hear a slight "pop" [not harmful] you have the right input and there might just be a problem with the dvd player itself.
be sure you have the right audio track selected or try playing a cd.
