SOURCE: john deere 420 trouble starting getting gas and

The engine needs air, so be sure the air filter is clean. If it is not, replace it.

The engine needs spark. Replace the spark plug and be sure that the battery has a complete charge.

The engine needs good fuel so be sure the gas is newly purchased, not gas that has been sitting around for months.

SOURCE: I have a John Deere 116 not getting gas to the filter or carb

Fuel line is pinched between fuel tank and frame. You should see the line coming down the rear side of tank, grab it and see if its free to move.

SOURCE: John Deere 445 Garden Tractor, starts immediately,

could be bad gas, but it sounds like a choke problem. did it sit over the winter with less than a half tank of gas in it. try putting some rubbing alcohol in the fuel or draining the tank and disconnecting the gas line so you can drain the gas out of the carb. also check the gap of the spark plug and make sure that is correct. when was the last time there was fresh oil put in. also check the air filter, it could be full of dirt.

SOURCE: problem with John Deere L120 tractor

Park brake switch is the most likely culprit, any other would cause the tractor to not turn over in the crank position.

SOURCE: I have a John Deere

Hi

Unhook the fuel pump feed to carb line and place it over a gas can with ignition disabled to see if it is pumping any fuel at all. If you are getting fuel past the filter and pump (should be low pressure) your next bet would be to check the carb itself. Many smaller motors that aren't run often can develop deposits or contaminants that clog small ports or jets in the carb and prevent fuel from making its way into the motor. If you have any available you may want to try spraying a little starting fluid into the carbs while cranking to see if it will help it turn over.

However if you are getting gas out of the bowl, then it can't be a plugged fuel filter. It could be bad needle-valve or blocked passage. Take the carb apart and soak it overnight in Lacquer thinner then blow it out with an air compressor. The float should be set slightly higher than level with the carburetor upside down.

My lt 133 john deere mower has gas in oil and back fires. runs 5 min and stops.

It's going to need a carb kit to fix the problem. Make sure your gas cap is venting ok, because gas expands in the summer and can force gas to pass thru carburetor and flood the cylinder then passing down into the oil. Depending on the age of your mower, the carburetor may have a gas shutoff solenoid on the bottom and this may have malfunctioned. Another is a bad float or needle valve which a carburetor kit would fix. A needle kit with bowl gasket may be all it will need. Hope this will help.

I have a 4500 John Deer tractor that typically won't start in cold temperatures (i.e. 39 or below) otherwise it starts promptly. I've pushed the key in to heat the glow plug a minute or more.

The 4500 John Deere tractor sounds like the glow plugs are not working. Checked voltage at the glow plugs to make sure that there is 12 DC volts.(Might have to remove main wire from the glow plugs to check!) If no voltage at glow plugs there maybe a bad fuse, relay or wire connection in the glow plug circuit. If there is 12 DC volts at the glow plugs, it is possible that the glow plugs need to be replaced.

My 2510 tracktor won't start

drain the fuel out, get rid of all the fuel additives. take the carburetor off and take apart and clean with spray carburetor cleaner. clean the bolt that goes in to the bottom real good. clean the holes in it good. put it back together and it will be good. it sounds like it has debris in there some where that needs cleaned out.

Won't stay running after prime runs out

starving for fuel. first check for bad/old gas, then restrictions in the fuel delivery including fuel line, filter, or buildup of debris in tank or any sharp bends or 90deg. fittings. then pull the float bowl and make sure the float is regulating fuel fuel into the bowl, but most likely your main jet is plugged. use a fine piece of wire like guitar string to runthru the jet located at the lowest part of the carb that hangs down into the float bowl. the jet will be on the side or bottom of this lower piece. put bowl back on, get gas to the carb and recheck starting problem. good luck. John deere js35 walk behind mower trouble shooting

It probably partially sheared the flywheel key. That's what it's supposed to do in case you jam the blade. You'll need to remove the flywheel and replace the key. The partially sheared key offsets the timing and then it wont start. First I would check to see if the crank didnt get bent when you jammed the blade. Turn the blade by hand and watch to see if it wobbles. If it does you have bigger problems.
