What make and model do you have?

On some models it is a slide mechanisim in the front base, in some Elna's it is a slide at the back of the free arm behind the bobbin area.

And in some basic models you can't lower them but you may have a little metal plate that you can clip over the needle plate to stop them touching your fabric.

Your manual should identify where the feed dog control is for your machine.

How do I drop the feed dog on a Nina sewing machine?

Depends on the model of your machine. The owner's manual would have those instructions. Some machines have a a lever or knob to drop the feed dogs. Some other machines do not drop the feed dogs but instead have a plate that mounts over the needle plate to prevent the feed dogs from accessing the fabric.

Cant find anywhere that tells me if i can drop feed dogs on my singer simple 3223

Could be your machine is one that the feed dogs do not drop. Instead, there is plate somewhere in the accessories that fastens over the feed dogs.

3223 SIMPLE Singer Sewing

Since your machine has a "darning plate," that is a good indication the feed dogs do not drop.

Janome 109/110 which hasn't been well looked after!Cleaned, oiled etc and sewing fine now but feed dog lever won't move to drop dogs for FMQ. Any suggestions? Thank you

Most likely the feed dog mechanism was not lubed enough to overcome the old oil that has turned to glue. It is very common for mechanical machines not well maintained over years to have the feed dogs seize. Use liquid Tri-Flow Synthetic Lube (hardware store or bike shop). Get access to the area around the feed dogs (either from underneath if it is a flat-bed machine or via the free arm). Gently wiggle the handwheel and watch where the feed dog mechanism moves. Apply a couple drops every place that metal rubs on metal. Move the feed-dog drop lever and apply a couple drops where metal parts rub there too. Direct hot air from a handheld hairdryer into the internal mechanism, focusing on the feed dogs and the feed dog lever. You may need to alternate the lube and hot air several times until it begins to move freely. Repeat until things move well.

I've used this method on several older machines and it has always worked, although some machines take more work and time than others.

Yesterday, while machine quilting, I heard a clank. Now the feed dogs won't feed the fabric. The feed dogs seem to move back when I start sewing; it seems as if they stayed forward before...

Did you check to make sure the feed dogs weren't inadvertently dropped. Most sewists drop the feed dogs for free motion quilting or darning.

How do you lower the height of the feed dog?

Normally it is referred to as dropping the feed dogs. There is usually a knob or dial that will drop the feed dogs. But there are some machines that do not have that functionality so there is a feed dog cover accessory to achieve that ability.

Janome 3050 feed dogs wont come back up

Dropping the Feed Dog
The feed dog can be lowered with the drop-feed lever for sewing on buttons etc.
  • Shift the drop-feed lever to the right to lower the feed dog.
  • Shift the lever to the left to raise the feed dog, it will return to the up position when the machine is started.

NOTE:The feed dog should be in the up position for regular sewing. Turn the handwheel toward you to check if the feed dog comes up after setting the lever in the up position

I dropped the feed dogs and they won't come back up.

Ignore all the other comments, they are wrong.
The feed dogs are driven by the feed driver mechanism, turn the hand-wheel forward and the feed dogs will come up. (Providing you have the feed dog switch to the up position).

Dropping Feed dogs on kenmore model 19233

Pull out the removable table and you will see the drop down feed dogs switch lever behind the back of the machine. Move that lever to the left or right to have feed dogs go back to normal sewing mode OR for embroidery mode.

Dropping Feed dogs on kenmore model 19233

Remove extension table/accessory box by gentle pulling it away from machine. You are left with just the free arm. In the back of the free arm, lower left corner, you will fine the feed dog lever. Push the leaver to the right to lower the feed dog.Instructions for lowering and raising the feed dog are on page 48 of your owner's manual. Good luck!
