There is a black residue coming from the motor in the scent chamber. what could cause that/

Amanda:

The black residue is probably coming from the drive belt that goes from the motor to the beater bar. Lay the machine on it's back, and remove the foot plate (or cover plate for the belt) and check the belt for wear.

Shark Steam and Mop Vac - Model MV2010- My shark is heating up but not steaming. What could be the problem?

solution number 2 works. however, you don't have to take it apart, the base plate has a steam hole in the center, just clean out with a paper clip. watch out for the residual steam, it actually helps clean out the mineral deposits

How do I get to the belt to fix it?

not knowing the make and model make this tough, But as a general rule, remove the bottom plate and to one side or the other you will see the belt attached to the beater bar , when replacing it, make sure to clear all the hair and debris that collect in that space, if the belt burned before it broke, be sure and remove that residue with a cleaning solution

I have burned my nylon trousers with the iron, its left a terrible black burn fabric mark on my iron, how can i clean the iron?

Get some XXXX steel wool. That's the finest grade. Rub from TIP TO HEEL until the junk is off. DON'T rub sideways, the iron will snag when you use it. After you clean the soleplate, wipe it well and run a steam cycle to remove the dust from the ports.

How to change drive belt on bissell vacuum cleaner

Hello, you will need to take the bottom plate off, remove the screws on the plate, then pull up and out the brush roller, clean off any hair on the roller, make sure it spins freely, then put a new belt around the metal motor shaft, then around the roller and pull in down into the housing, spin the roller to make sure it moves freely, so you don't burn up the new belt, put the bottom plate back on and your ready to vacuum. Any questions feel free to call @ 1561-848-3387 I'll be gflad to help, Thank you, Teresa. Clean Sweep Vacuums

I have a Dyson DC04 which is making a strong burning smell within a few seconds of switching on. Is this likely to be the motor and if so can it be replaced?

More likely it is the beater brush which is jammed and not turning. Turn the machine over and remove the bottom plate. Unhook the drive belt, then try to turn the beater brush--it is likely bound up with string, thread, and hair. Try turning the machine on once--if the motor spins and makes vacuum, it is probably ok. Remove the brush assembly and clean it of debris. Clean the end bearings with a Q tip and WD40 oil, then wipe clean with another Q tip. Oil the bearings with 3-1 or other light oil. Check the belt for a badly burned area--replace if necessary. Slide the new belt over the brush and motor shaft, then drop the brush with bearings into the case, and check rotation. If ok, replace the plate and test on your floor. Hope this helps!

Cleaned hair/string buildup around beater bar , put everything back in place now vacuum makes knocking noise and has that burning rubber smell.

This sounds like the beater belt is slipping and may be due to the fact that the beater brush is not secured correctly or there is debris / grease build up inder the belt. Try cleaning it with Methylated Spirit and repalce the belt. Do not clean the belt with this. Also do not use Surgical Spitit as it leaves an oil residue. If the belt is still a problem then replace it.

How do you replace the belt

Check for a pair of screws at the outer edge of the brush housing area. On this unit I believe the unscrew form above. Then look for any others on the bottom plate below the the brush. Belts can break or burn thru. If your s has burned, clean the burned rubber from the motor shaft before replacing. Spin the brush roll, if it rolls smoothly remove it , place the belt over the motor shaft, then onto the brush and use the brush to pull into place.Check for hair and thread buildup at the end caps of the brush. The nylon caps pop off for cleaning.
