Question about Vacuums

Open Question

We bought a new home in march. It is a brand new home, with brand new First Alarm smoke/CO detectors. The very first night, we noticed the iving room (main) smoke alarm was "chirping". So we tried to replace the batteries, but when we did, all of the smoke alarms started going off (they are hardwired). We took out the new battery & dealt with the chirp. It is getting to be too much. So we are trying to fix it, but everytime we replace the batteries, the alarms are silent for a little bit, & then they start going off- three beeps, pause, three beeps, pause, three beeps. I am going to go CRAZY! They are not dirty, I have cleaned them. I have taken out all the batteries, tested each one, & then replaced the batteries, & retested. They are fine for 5-10 minutes, then they all go off again. I have looked through the manual & on the manufacturer's website. No help there. What can I do? Especially at 8pm on a Saturday?

To replace or install the batteries, you must first remove the alarm from the trim ring, rotating the alarm (see pic).

After alarm has been removed, you can open the battery door and install or replace the battery. Battery installation instructions are also often provided on the inside of the battery door.

Depending on Lifesaver model, when reinstalling the battery, you may need press the battery reminder finger down into the battery compartment and replace the battery (see pic).

Screw back the alarm to the base to complete the job. In some case, if the alarm is still chirping you need to press the test button to reset.

Most of these types open from the side, or have a press-to-release mechanism that operates similar to a ball point pen clicking mechanism. Most have the release directions embossed on the casing; feel around for the raised print.

The chirping is definitely the low battery warning. Are you sure the battery you put in was good? I would definitely double check the battery using a meter.

I have to change the batteries on our smoke alarm but I cannot stop it beeping when the batteries are inserted. Can you advise on the problem and the solution.

There is not much that is repairable with smoke detectors, BUT they need to be replaced every 8 to 10 years as the sensitivity declines, MUCH more in homes with smokers....
Just change the detector out, your life is worth it.

Lanson smoke alarm model LANSD240B S/N 139606 Alarm alert beeping. Replaced battery, tried 2 new battries, still beeps. No smoke or fumes found.

try this, remove the unit and take out the battery you will see 4 small rubber plugs in the back.
remove these and take out the 4 screws, you will find a lot of dust and insects in there, gently blow out with compressed air and the sensor as well.
I did 2 problem ones in my house and now they are working fine

I bought a solar Hybrid Alarm yesterday and cannot enter the batteries--the spring compresses without leaving enough room.

Well could you please post the brand and model # , also you could read the manual to try to find the proper recomended battery size for your alarm and if you are using the correct ones then what you have is a design or malfunction problem so if it is under warranty you can ask for an exchange or refund.

I bought a house with a DIGITAL FRONTIER. DFA3400 Hybrid Alarm System but no manual, I do not know how to set the alarm and to put in a code to deactivate the alarm. I need an owners manual.

Key in the 4 digit passwrrd and press "A" button, this will delay for a few minutes for you to leave the house, lock the door before activation.

If you are at home and want to arm the alarm immediately, key in your 4 digit password and press H button and the alarm will arm immediately (except certain zone such as IR, since you do not want to trigger this while moving around inside the house).

To disarm just input the 4 digit password. Please see or download the manual attached for programming new password and other functions.

Our carbon monoxide dectector model CO910, bought several years ago (10+) beeps every 30 seconds with an "err" message. All windows where it is are open. No one is feeling ill. Is it just an error on...

CO2 and Smoke detectors have an internal sensor that has a design life of 5 years from the date of manufacture. After the 5 years you start getting false alarms due to the sensor itself exceeding its average life span. On the combination CO2 and Smoke deterctors you will often see a manufacture date or a replace by date inside the cover on the main board.
On AC powered models such as this one you will just get the error when the sensor fails. If you got the full 5+ years out of your CO2 sensor then you should be happy that it served a full life expectancy.

Some Wiki data on CO2 detectors:

This paragragh appears under installation

The gas sensors in CO alarms have a limited and indeterminable life span, typically two to five years. The test button on a CO alarm only tests the battery and circuitry not the sensor. CO alarms should be tested with an external source of calibrated test gas, as recommended by the latest version of NFPA 720. Alarms over five years old should be replaced but they should be checked on installation and at least annually during the manufacturers warranty period.

Thanks for choosing FixYa.
