I have a malibu transformer. recently got alot of rain and it tripped the GFI. I reset it, but now the lights stay on all the time, won't turn off for anything other than cutting the power to the unit. Anyone know why this may be?

Bad news.
There must have been a short circuit inside unit that caused GFCI to trip.
Once the ML power pack malfunctions or shorts out, there are no fixes or repair parts.
ML series have 5 year limited warranty.

Good news:
If lights stay on, then work around problem by plugging power pack into cheap on-off timer.

Problem with Malibu Landscape Lights Transformer ML900TW

Use an extension cord to plug the transformer into a different "test" GFCI receptacle, if it holds on the test GFCI you know that the GFCI for the transformer needs replaced. If it doesn't hold, then the transformer is on the way out and should be replaced. Sometimes motors and transformers will "leak" current and still work, but not trip a regular circuit breaker. A GFCI that is doing it's job will catch it though. Don't force a GFCI like that...you can wear it out prematurely.

I've had a problem like this. Can you safely power the pump from a non gfi outlet for a while? Once it runs and whatever is causing this condition dries out, you can plug it back into the gfi.

Purchase new 32'' tv 2-day ago, will not work in a GFI plug outlet trips GFI each time you reset, is there something wrong with unit? works fine in a non GFI outlet

Good News!!! GFI outlets are made to trip when a large amount of power is pulled through them. A GFI is basically a small circuit breaker.Your television set is probably just pulling more amperage than the GFI is rated to handle. That means the GFI is working properly And so is the TV!

if the outlet was wired right and working fine before -- then ' yes ' the GFI has tripped and it could have failed do to the rain. replace the outlet with a new GFI outlet and I would also suggest that since you have the outlet outside that you install it into a outdoor weather proof outlet box.

My malibu transformer has a reset button on the back near the terminal connections. If the transformer is on (time displays on the panel) but the light fixtures are not lit, look for the reset button on the back and depress it.

Our rain bird was off and i changed the battery. I tried to turn it on manually and it says, no ac?

The battery only holds the program in the memory. The No AC message tells you that the AC power that is supposed to operate the valves is not getting to the control unit. Someplace there is a power cord with a transformer that is taking the house current at 120V and powering the unit. Something has been disconnected or a circuit breaker is tripped. If there is an outside socket with a GFI in it, try resetting it.

Timer stops at on postion? transfomer works, have to do it by hand

If the timer is stopping, it could be a physical obstruction. Or it could be an electrical mis wiring so that the timer is turning itself off at that point, check the incoming wiring and see if it makes sense, and follow the diagram to see if the incoming power is definitely not on any switched terminals, they would maybe be marked with NO , NC,

Malibu Lighting Breaker Switch

There are two possible problems you could be facing (excluding the transformer going bad) If you have replaced light bulbs with higher wattage ones, you could be drawing too much current through the transformer. (It is common for MR-16 style lightbulbs to be 20w in landscape lights, but 50w for inside lights, and the local hardware store usually only carries the 50w replacement lamps) Each transformer has a specific amount of "watts" it can supply (anywhere from 100w to 1000w) If you exceed the supply wattage of the transformer, the breaker inside the transformer will trip. The quick and easy way to test this is to take a few of the lightbulbs out and see if the breaker will hold.
If you are positive that the total lamp wattage does not exceed the rating of the transformer the second possible problem (but less likely) is that you have a lamp socket or wire connection that is full of water. This water between the two conductors draws current just like a light bulb and can cause an overcurrent fault. This is usually more common if it starts to trip right after a heavy rain when the ground gets saturated with water.

Good Luck!
