Question about Pentax MZ-7 Film Camera

Open Question

I just got a Pentax MZ-7 35 mm camera from my son who has had it in storage for x amount of years having gone digital. I replaced the batteries but nothing works.... I am even not able to look through the view finder, it is just black; yes the lens cap is off. When I turn on the camera it whirrs for a moment and goes quiet. Pressing the shutter, it whirrs and stops again. When I got the camera the power button was in the on position with batteries inside. Can anything be done to wake up this camera or is it a hopeless case?

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

SOURCE: Pentax ME Super Shutter and Rapid Wind Button...

anmolag,

it could be the rubber bumper next to the fresnel lens has become sticky. very gently ( after removing lens ) try to bring mirror down without forcing it. it should release easily.
if not, rotate the select knob off auto. open film door and check that the shutter is fully deployed, shutters should not be overlapping.
remove screws from bottom cover and remove cover, keep camera up side down so that re-wind button stays put. there is a locking lever under the take up spool ( gray ) . with a pin move lever toward film door and bring advance lever fully to the right , then let it go so it returns quickly.
the shutter should have fired. if not the camera will need to be repaired. get an estimate first as there are no new parts available.

SOURCE: pentax me super mirror in up position

If the batteries are flat or missing you wont get LED's to light up and it will set itself to 125 naturally. I know as I have tried it. It could be that the shutter has got stuck on its way down and it is preventing the mirror from coming down as a result this is a mechanical issue, not battery related. The best way I found to release the mirror was to gently, really gently stroke the shutter nearest to the film down towards the groove it goes home in. Recommend a cotton budd so you don't damage the shutter leaves or get grease from your fingers on the movement. This should release the mirror. The next thing to do is try preventing the shutter getting stuck again by removing the bottom plate which will allow you access to the cogs for the shutter. it is tight in there and it is recommended by some that you remove some of the movement to see and clean them up. I did this but it is tricky and it involves winding on the camera and rocking parts out with itself. Not easy to do. The shutter cogs are brass (or look like it) and they may have old oil stuck inbetween the teeth which needs cleaning out with a tooth pick and then lubricate but not with WD40 which gets sticky with age. Use a cotton budd again with the lubricant on so you don't affect other sensitive parts around this section. Alternatively send the camera for a good service. I just had mine done, got it sorted with a warranty for 12 months to and cost me just £45. They cleaned everything up, new light seals and sorted issues common to this model of camera. The photos are instantly back to their best. Compare a good service to a series of wasted film with an inconsistent camera. Peace of mind too, it is worth it and so is the camera!

SOURCE: wont turn on

Hello,
I assumed that you loaded a fresh battery set and with correct polarity ,otherwise it does give such signal.
If you have the user manual, please check the other alternatives on trouble shooting section.
If you do not have a user manual you can visit the site below where instruction manual copies for Pentax,
www.pentax-manuals.com

It's not an official site, but the manuals for downloading are better quality copies and in color
where possible: and they have the MZ30 too.

Fault on Pentax MZ-7

If your camera still has warranty, try to get it repaired free. Clearly the mechanism witch works the prism is jammed or broken. theres not much else you can do yourself. Unless you are willing to open the camera up yourself Id recommend takeing it to warranty service or to a repair shop if no warranty exist.

Camera shoots all the film then rewinds.

Repair would be at least $139 from Blue Moon Camera. I would buy another MZ-50 (ZX-50 is the same) off eBay or you could buy a ZX-30 from Blue Moon Camera for $75 with 1 year warranty. They are professional.

Pentax MZ-60 very ******* batteries

steve_macint,

the camera has a short circuit. if the camera got wet or was in very high humidity the flex circuit is shorting . take or send your MZ60 to a camera repair shop for an estimate. if the camera has liquid damage they most likely will not repair it.
however if it's just a component part it's fixable.
the battery drain will worsen as the short increases.

Can you help me purchase a tele converter lens for a MZ-60 camera

You need to track down a 2x teleconverter that has a Pentax A mount for it to work correctly on the moun t of your camera.

I believe Adorama has one here:
http://www.adorama.com/PRO2XPX.html

Check with them first to ensure compatibility
