Question about Honeywell Programmable Thermostat Heater

1 Answer

Just purchased and installed a Honeywell programmable thermostat (RTH6350) and for some reason, the furnace just decided to turn on, and it won't turn off - even when i turned the thermostat off!!! There are no shorts in the wires - all was hooked up corectly. Had to power off the entire furnace just to get the heat from turning on. Any ideas??

Thanks for the response.. I checked all the wires and all is fine - they are going exactly where they should be going. And, no wires are touching each other.. Giving the unit time now to see if it responds to the thermostat, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Think I'm just goin to replace the unit all together..

I would recheck your wiring..... Shut the furnace off at the breaker or SSU.... Then get a pen and pad and write down the color of wires and where it is connect on the Terminal strip at the furnace..

Example: Red wire hooked to R terminal etc They should all match up with the subase of the new Thermostat.
Then go up to the thermostat and Check and make sure the colors match what you have wired at the furnace. R= Power W=Heat G=Fan Y=Cooling C=Common

There are two possible ways the heat could be power on all the time..... You have the white wire or W wire wired to G and the thermostat is set to Fan ON... or the insulation on the R wire and W wire is split and touching each other or they got pinched and are touching together which will make the furnace come on with out the thermostat controlling it..... Good Luck, Its is where I would start first.... there our other possibilitys the control board may of gone hay wire.....

Installed a rth6350 now no power

The RTH6350 is a battery-powered thermostat. Did you correctly install the AA batteries? Press down and pull the battery holder away from the thermostat on the right hand side. Try new batteries. Did you remember to secure the C wire with a wire nut and push it back into the wall. It should not be connected to the thermostat.

If you connected the C wire, you may have damaged the thermostat by providing too much current. Honeywell has the documentation for the RTH6350 on the product page: http://yourhome.honeywell.com/home/Products/Thermostats/5-2-Day-Programmable/RTH6350D.htm . The installation guide is here: https://customer.honeywell.com/request.cfm?form=69-2416ES . See page 23 and subsequent pages for the wiring diagrams.

I hope this helps.

Honeywell thermostat won't turn the furnace on after power outage.

probably tripped a limit switch or a low voltage fuse would kill your display on the tstat, you should have battery power on your stat though.unless you have knowlege of electrical you better call a technician

Honeywell ct3200 thermostat won't turn on

DON'T BUY A NEW ONE JUST YET! IF THE BATTERIES DIED & THERMOSTA LOST POWER, IT MAY HAVE LOST IT'S MEMORY. IT MOST LIKELY WENT BACK TO FACTORY DEFAULT SETTINGS, & NEEDS TO BE RE-PROGRAMMED THROUGH THE INSTALLER SET-UP MENU. HOPEFULLY YOU HAVE THE PAPERWORK FOR THE THERMOSTAT STILL & CAN POSSIBLY DO THE SET-UP YOURSELF. IT SHOULD HAVE STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS FOR THIS IN THE INSTALLATION GUIDE (NOT THE OWNERS MANUAL)

Honeywell RTH6350/RTH6450 Thermostats - Have two that had to be replaced as heat would not work at all. Had Honeywell tech on for 1/2 hour he could do nothing from India!! Wondering if these were...

The problem with the honeywell brand is that the only dependable units begin with TH not RTH the RTH is for residential and you can purchase those at a local home improvement store. Go on Ebay and spend the money for a quality t-stat. "you get what you pay for"

Honeywell rth230b won't shut off heat

Sounds like a relay sticking. Possibly in the thermostat or possibly the furnace relay at the furnace. The next time it happens, unplug the thermostat from the wall. If the furnace still runs then it's the furnace relay.

Hope that helps...

Honeywell 5+2 day programmable thermostat will keep heating to 29 degrees!

Is sounds like you wired it correctly, The black is a little unusual perhaps its blue, anyway, try disconnecting the wires from the thermostat and see if it shuts off. If so, then it may need to re calibrated. I will need some more info to help you anymore.
