I am assuming that it is the drive belt that is off, if it is then you will need to thread it back on then with a big flat tip screw drive put belt back around the back big pulley. Hope this helped Tim

1997 mtd riding mower 46 inch deck runs good does not seemed to go as fast as it did last year slower moving does it have fluid in rear end and if it does were do you check

a lot of the time on older models the drive belts tend to wear out and slip some. hills and pulling a cart make them wear out faster. you said you have a 1997. if the belts have never been changed i would bet that it just needs new belts. you may check to see if there is any oil or grease on the belts if not put some new belts on it and it should be good. i hope this gives you an idea on where to strt.

Why won't the blades engage on my riding mower 54" mtd 13ap625k730?

You have probably thrown the belt for the blades. If it continues to throw the bet check the tensioner.

Riding mower surges in forward and not reverse. It

Ok first of all is not an automatic. Its a pedal operated transmission. The motion is accomplished by tightening a belt with a moveable idler and it is only shifted with a lever to forward and reverse. The belt probabley has a burnt spot in it and it hits that spot and it feels like a surge. Replace the motion belt
