Question about Helio Ocean Cellular Phone

Screen blanking My year-plus old Ocean has been having problems with the screen lately. The screen blanks out. The device still functions normally, (i.e. calls, media use), I just have to know exactly how to navigate through my menus to do anything. I use the USB cord to charge it mostly, instead of the wall plug one. Also, I recently started using Samsung SBH500 headphones with it. The screen never gave me problems beforehand, so I figured I should mention it. For the first few days, it seemed to work when it felt like it, but for close to a week now, it's not been working at all. It has a backlight, but its just a gray screen. I pay for device protection, so I've all but accepted that I'll probably have to send it back and just get another, but I have a few hundred pictures, and I haven't recently synched my contacts, so there are a few things I'd like to do before sending it back. Do you know of any ways I could prolong complete screen failure, or some kind of temporary fix? Thanks for your time.

    I've got the same problem, too. I have the device protection, but this is the only phone I have, and I'd rather not like to give it up for repairs. Any tips on fixing it would be great; I'd hate to have to get a new phone.

    Dropped my phone and the same thing happened. Blank screen with a light in the back. Phone works fine, it's just the screen that's blank... Had this phone for less than a year too..

    Same problem - didn't drop it. One way i get temporary clear screen is to call myself from another phone and "sometimes" it rings and clears the screen fro a while.

    Same issue here, had the phone since March 08, this morning the screen is either blanked out or unreadably dim when opened to the keypad, but bright as day and fine when closed or in qwerty. Maybe I can convince them to let me get an OZ2 for cheaper as a replacement ;-)

I had the same problem. They told me that it is a hardware issue and therefore they can extend my (expired) warranty for six more months in order to cover the current situation and thus allow a replacement to be sent. Free.

They didn't specifically say they would send an Ocean, but I assume they will. I'll know in 3-5 business days.

Here are some of the BB rest codes.

Soft ResetIf you can't sync your BlackBerry with your PC (device not detected), then you can make use of the following key combination to perform a soft reset:
  • Press the following keys simultaneously: ALT+DELETE+RIGHT SHIFT.
  • The screen will go blank and from there let the device start normally.

Hard Reset
  • You can use a hard reset when your applications/device are not working properly.
  • This is achieved using the same key combination as above:
    • ALT+DELETE+RIGHT SHIFT.
  • But this time you will have to use it twice.
  • On the first attempt the Blackberry screen will turn blank and will light up.
  • Upon this use the same key combination again (ALT+DELETE+RIGHT SHIFT.), you should get a blank screen followed by an hour glass.
  • Let the device boot normally and it should be OK.

My screen went blank or white, on my brand new motorola i856 .. i recived a text ... hit reply .. and bam ,,, blank white screen ... 4 days old ... what do i do ???


This reply is somewhat late, but, the WSOD on the i856 is thought to be caused by the ribbon cable breaking or tearing in the slide.  If it is under warranty, contact motorola.  But do it quickly, the phone only has a 90 day warranty.

replace the LCD theres a posibilty of it being foulty , the IC on the lcd is damaged and please check the lcd socket on the MB .

Hi there,

Basically it sounds to me that the main FPCB is faulty.

How old is your handset?

Samsung handsets now have a 2 years manufacturers warranty (from the point of manufactur not sale)

All you need to do is take it to your nearest Carphone Warehouse and they can send it away for repair for FREE., Alternativly go to one of there Express Repair Centers and it may be done in a few hours. [carphonewarehouse.com/repairs/]

Helio Ocean..blank screen


I managed to fix mine! It takes some doing and is probably not for the faint hearted. You have to disassemble the Ocean from the battery side, removing the qwerty keyboard, to gain access to the slider assembly.

Disassemble the slider (pay attention to the spring!) and clean all contacts and make sure all of the flex cables are seated completely. Mine was working OK the qwerty way, but was blank and/or garbled the long way. Now it works great!

replaced the flexcable on the phone to make it work again...take it to a mobile service center to be fix.

My screen goes blank from time to time and when I turn it off and turn it back on again, it seems to re-boot itself and is fine. However, I have never had this problem with any other phone and fear my phone may be dying. It is only 1 year old and worked fine for the first 8 months I had it. But the blank screen seems to happen more frequently lately. I don't think I will buy and LG again.
