Re model737AN--the spark from igniter appears to be too far in advance[2 or so seconds] off gas valve.--- any way to adjust this?

Spark should be ahead of gas valve sensor should pick up ignition sequence open gas valve and ignition accurs if gas comes on first combustion chamber fills with gas then ignition not a good look if you still have a house.

power loss after a period of running could be attributed to 2 things
no venting for the fuel tank
or ignition control module failing from a component failure from over heating
the first one you can check
the second will be checked at a service center for the engine
for safety sake take it in and have a proper diagnosis done and a quote

My comfortmaker furnace has an electric ignitor. It works fine but the spark it creates isn't lighting the pilot. What should I do?


Move the spark source close to the pilot flame area by bending or another method of adjustment.

Payne 383KAV heater. Gas valve won't open to fire heater.


Being as how you changed the gas valve, make sure the arrow on the bottom of the gas valve is pointed towards the burner. Check for 24 volts at the common and main valve terminals on the gas valve when the thermostat is calling for heat...terminals MV and C. You will only have 24v there if the flame sensor senses flame... either pilot flame or main gas. You coud have 24v there without gas flowing or flame if is is a thermocouple standing pilot system and the gas valve is not in the 'on' position. But standing pilot systems usually do not have flame sensors.

With a flame sensor in the system, you have to have either spark ignition or glow coil ignition. If its spark ignition check for 24 volts at the pilot valve and common terminals on the gas valve WHILE the ignitor is sparking. That would be PV and C. The ignitor should spark and 24v should be on PV and C for 30 seconds to a full minute without ignition if it is a spark-to-pilot system.

If you have a glow coil, it will energize and burn bright orange for a minimum of 30 seconds BEFORE the main valve is energized. Then MV and C is only receiving 24v for approximately 5 to 6 seconds. This gives the flame sensor the time to prove the flame....if it does not prove flame, the system shuts down.

Hi Anonymous, and the usual supects are:
1. Spark plugs are in bad condition, improper gap, partially fouled.
2. Spark plug cables in bad condition.
3. Battery nearly discharged.
4. Loose wire connection at one of the battery terminals especially the ground cable at both ends,coil, or plug between the Ignition Sensor and Control Module.
5. Throttle controls not adjusted correctly.
6. Water or dirt in fuel system/tank
7. Water or dirt in carburator.
8. Intake air leak.
9. Fuel tank vent hose and vapor valve plugged, or fuel line closed off, restricking fuel flow.
10. Inrichner valve inoperative.
11. Engine lubricant to heavy (winter operation).
12. Ignition not functioning properly possible faulty CKP, CTS or MAP sensor.
13. Faulty ignition coil.
14. Valves sticking.

I have a 225,000 to 375,000 btu propane heater that the gas valve will not open on. The igniter sparks I can see that .There does not appear to be a thermocouple unless it is built into the igniter. T


YOU MAY NEED TO CLEAN THE NOZZLE, THE FUEL FILTER, & POSSIBLY ADJUST THE PRESSURE AT REAR OF UNIT. MAKE SURE THAT THE FILTERS ARE CLEAR & UNIT HAS PROPER AIR FLOW OTHERWISE IT WILL OVERHEAT & TRIP THE HIGH LIMIT

97 Honda Odyssey Auto transmission downshifts


Try checking your timing to solve the ping problem, your timing might be too far advanced. For the downshifting problem, I have this same issue on my odyssey, On the top of your efi manifold you will see 2 wires that control your throttle, One of them extends to the transmission and basically lets it know when you are pressing firmly on your gas pedal, telling it to downshift. I would adjust it so the cable has some more slack in it, therefore requiring a harder press on the pedal before downshift, and hopefully a sooner upshift. You can also slightly adjust idling problems if the van is running high while in park or drive while sitting. As for the gas vapor purge code, I would first try replacing the egr valve, its only a couple bucks and takes no more than 5 minutes.

4th burner (1 on far right) won't ignite...


Hello, here is a check list for your most common gas grill lighting problems: Skip the 1st 2 tips for your problem.

1) Check your tank. Is it empty or nearly empty? The tare weight (T.W.) of your cylinder is stamped on the collar. This is the weight of your empty cylinder, usually around 18 lbs. Weigh it on your bathroom scale2_bing.gif. Propane weighs 4.25 lbs/gal. If it weighs around 20 lbs or less - Refill it. If not, go to #2.

2) Make sure you didn't turn the gas tank valve on too fast. Some gas hoses have a built-in excess flow valve that stops the flow of gas to a trickle if opened too fast. Close the tank valve and let sit for a few minutes. Or just disconnect it and reconnect it. Turn the tank valve very slowly and then try lighting it again. If it doesn't help, go to #3.

3) Is the igniter sparking? Some are battery2_bing.gif powered-check the battery or replace it. If you have a standard push button piezzo igniter or a rotary style2_bing.gif igniter, check for spark. Can you hear or see the spark? It's hard to see the spark in bright daylight. It's easier to view the spark at dusk or dawn. It should spark an "arc" at the burner. If not, adjust it if necessary. The igniter wire may have a short, causing the spark to arc somewhere else along the wire and not at the burner. Replace igniter wire. It's also possible the igniter tip where it sparks has a cracked or broken porcelain portion of the igniter, causing the spark to not arc at the tip where it's supposed to. Replace the igniter piece. If not, go to #4.

4) You may have a rusted, clogged or damaged burner or venturi tube. With a flashlight, check for spider webs, wasp nests or dirt (mud) dauber nests in the opening of the venturi tube where it connects at each gas valve orifice. Clean it out manually or blow it out with air compressor. Make sure the air adjustment opening (on the end of the burner's venturi tube) has not been changed. If it's closed too much, it will be difficult to light and cause lazy yellow flames. If it's not clogged, the burner may just be old and rusted and the burner holes are not allowing very much gas through anymore. It's also possible the burner has rusted so bad, the burner holes have been enlarged, it is falling apart or has cracks along the burner seams. If so, replace the burner(s) immediately. It is unsafe to use. Your local propane co can usually order the parts you need and some will even do the work, if you are uncomfortable doing it yourself. Bring with you the Make, Model and Serial number of the grill, so they can order the correct parts for your specific grill. Also specify whether it's natural gas2_bing.gif or propane.

5) If none of these resolve the issues you are having, it is also possible you have a faulty or defective regulator, which may mean replacement. If the pressure still seems too low and none of the above has helped, and you have a silver/gray regulator; many have an adjustment screw on the top center of the diaphragm. Remove the outer cap and turn the inside screw clockwise in 1/4 turns to increase the pressure until the desired flame size is accomplished. Flames should be as blue as possible, but will burn orange if there is food or drippings on it. Yellow flames are not good, and will soot up everything and not cook as hot as blue flames do. Yellow flames could mean you do not have the right air shutter adjustment, clogged burners, or possibly defective burners, as mentioned above in #4.

6) Also make sure you have the hose connection tightened snugly to the propane tank valve to ensure the inner valve seat is fully depressed allowing gas to exit fully without any restriction. The black plastic female fitting should be hand tightened only. Older versions that use a left-hand male brass POL valve, requires a 7/8 open end wrench or adjustable wrench to tighten.

Gas jets wont start they just make clicking sound


try oven if working gas valve system possible ok lift off covers to expose igniter looks like a little wire that arcs a spark to ignite gas clicking is igniter trying to spark ,clean area of debris if any, if no spark will need igniter adjuster /repaired or replaced and gas valve checked for proper function

I have an old ideal elan 2 boiler. The pilot light has gone out and wont re-ignite. I have pressed the ignition switch in but there is not even a spark. Does anybody know where the re-set button is on...


Hi, to light the pilot you must first ensure the gas valve button (Grey with 3 symbols on it) is placed in the ignition position, then, while holding the button in towards the gas valve depress the orange ignitor button several times, hold the gas valve button in for about 30 seconds once the pilot lights. If it fails to light and you cannot see a spark when you depress the ignition button the cable could be faulty, the ignitor corroded or damaged or the pilot could be blocked or the gas turned off. If it is an Elan 2 CF boiler there is no reset button.

Front igniters intermittent - how do I get the top off?


The igniter are too far need to adjust /if you connot reach to take a butter knife use two step ladder.
