Hi,

Many recalls for both dometic and Norcold have been issued in the past. There is a chemical called sodium chromate in the solution that circulates inside the cooling unit. It is there to prevent the ammonia/hydrogen/water solution from corroding the steel tubing. If a leak develops, this chemical changes from a liquid state to a powder in the presence of air. A yellow / green residue on the outside of the cooling unit indicates a leak. And the cooling unit is bad....... Also if the unit sat for a long period of time UNLEVEL then you could have blockage, the refrigerator depends on gravity to move the solutions through the system once the heat source has lifted the solutions to the top of the cooling unit. The passages that the solution must travel through have only a slight slope to them and any off-level condition will hinder this gravity flow.I would rather advise you to call the manufacturer and check if there is any recall. Unless, they could tell you the quote to change the cooling system. You could take a decision from there. A thumb rule - if the cost of the repair is more than half of the cost of the product, it is wise to switch to a new unit.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Refrigerator not cooling on electricty or gas

You will first want to ensure the RV is level.
If the RV is level, then open the rear access vent door on the side of the RV to access the rear of the refrigerator. Feel the coils just above the tank on the cooling system. These coils should be warm to the touch. If they are warm and the refrigerator is not cooling then you will require a replacement cooling unit. Also, the most common area for the Dometic 2652 to leak is just above the propane burner area. If it has leaked, you should see a yellow residue in that area. The cooling unit can be changed in approximately 2-3 hours with no specialized tools needed (Arcticold offers 7 day a week free tech support). The old cooling unit will simply unbolt and the new one bolts in. Check out ArctiCold Refrigeration We keep it cold (the highest quality product available) Arcticold New Cooling units come standard with a Lifetime Warranty. Install instructions are also provided with the cooling unit. Arcticold has locations across North America to provide fast delivery. Your cooling unit is done, and will need replacement. I will urge you to take down model and serial number and go to their site, or call Dometic , ( www.dometicusa.com) 1-800-544-4881, and inquire whether your unit falls into the recall on some of those models. You may end up with a new cooling unit, free of charge.

Dometic refrig not cooling but found yellow oil at service panel

if you find an oily substance its most likely freon. this looks pretty new so i would say you have a bad soldered joint on a copper to steel line. theses usually ar fot the high side. where the condensor coil or loop runs either to underref or up in the ref walls

I have a dometic dm2652 rv fridge. its new and is

The DM2652 comes with an optional cooling fan to help with cooling the amonia. The fan cycles on and off as required as it has a tempeature sensor (thermistor). We turn ours off at night by removing the inline fuse (glass tube fuse 3 amp) located in your outside acces panel. The fuse is located in a black fuse holder with a re wire connecting both sides.

Fridge not cooling

If you look in the outside compartment do you see a yellowish powder? If you do, or if you smell amonia probably the cooling unit has leaked the coolant. It does not help to add coolant, it will just leak out again quickly. You will need a new fridge or to have the cooling unit replaced. If that is the problem, Dometic has a recall on some models for leaks and will pay for a new cooling unit.
