Question about Garden

Open Question

I have a snapper 11hp mower and the belt keeps falling off when I run the blades. But when I adjust the tentioner then I see smoke from burning rubber. The pulleys all spin freely so what could this be?

SOURCE: Craftsman 42" Tractor Blade Problem

sounds like either the spindal bearings are shot or maybe the spindal shaft is bent. check for up and down slop at the blades. then turn blades towards each other and check that the heigth lines up. also chec the idler pully to make sure it is not slapping around.

SOURCE: broken belt

This is actually pretty simple:

Remove Pto guard on mower deck

Stand mower up on back stands

Pull the friction disc away from the drive disc

slip new belt in between the friction disc and drive disc pushing all the way through

release friction disc allowing to come back in contact with drive disc

loop belt around engine pulley

let mower back down

route belt around mower pulley

loosen guides on idler pulley

route belt through idler pulley

with engine off move pto lever to tighten mower belt

adjust guides on idler pulley allowing 1/8" from belt

tighten bolt on idler pulley

release pto tension

install mower pto guard

and you should be ready to mow

SOURCE: shearing of flywheel pin on starting 12 hp snapper

When you the key this time, put the flywheel on first then the key but this time use a little grit between the flywheel and crankshaft. Something like grinding compound. It will keep the flywheel from moving plus make sure you torque down the flywheel nut good.
Good Day.

The blade belt on my yardman yardbug smokes or burning whichever the case may be,why is this?

Either the blades are not moving due to a tight shaft under the mower deck, or a simpler malfunction, hopefully the belt just needs tightened by adjusting the pulleys.

Drive belt falls off mower

You need to inspect the pullies holding the belt, and the bearings that run the pullies. If they are bad they will jump the belt.

Lots of smoke when I engaged stuck blades - now runs roughly

Most likely what you did was burn one or more spots on the belt. When the blades and belt stop turning, like in tall grass, the engine doesn't stop and will burn flat spots on the belt at the engine pulley. Every time the flat spot hits a pulley, it will jump and can set up a bad vibration. Run your hand around the sides of the belt or take it off and you will feel or see the thin spot(s) on it. Replace belt.
