The part that Tech loosened is under Terminal Cover S and it is threaded connector above power input cord. I have cable attached now and the tech made cable so short (and it is pretty rigid cable) that cover would not go back on if it had to. Think Cable itself caused problem. Now I will call Cable Co again to see if they will send another jolt to small DTA box and see results then.
Thank you so much for what you have told me thus far.

Thank you so much for quick response. Do believe it is the Antenna Connection under Terminal Caver L. Have tech coming Wednesday. I do have Cable reconnected and it seems tight but now cannot change channels or get sound. Snowy black & white picture is all I get.

  • bacu0740 May 21, 2011

Thanks again, for this. Called Cable Co, Tech coming Weds AM. Will have to see what happens. I know there will be no acknowledgement as to how this connector got to be loose.

  • bacu0740 May 22, 2011

Thanks again. I did remove and reinstall as best I could without trying to further damage the Antenna connection on the TV portion. But, still no picture, abililty to change channels or have normal (non static covered) sound. This does lead me to believe that there IS total disconnect under cover.

  • bacu0740 May 22, 2011

Thanks again. I guess I will just have to wait until Wednesday. Then, most probably they will not admit to damage so I will just have to replace the set which is not an exciting thought. But, not being able to totally repair myselt, spending money for part & Labor can go towards new set. This TV sits where it is watched during meals and eating with silence all of the time is strange.

Check that it is not just a lose cable problem. Remove and tighten the cable back to the connector on both sides. Ensure that the middle pin is not bent on one side. In case it is simply a cable problem, then if possible call the tech again to fix the problem.

If the connector has been damaged , then it is a different matter, In that case the TV or the DTA must be repaired by soldering back the connector.

Here an exploded view of the TV:

Cable Co Tech loosened Antenna Connector while - ginko_91.jpg

The problem is more likely a not well installed cable. Disconnect power from TV and box (Be sure that the cables are not plugged). Disconnect and reinstall the cable. If that does not work give a call to the company.

Let me know if part is broken and there is need for help with any repair.

The antenna connector under the cover L has behind the tuner which is part of the terminal board. Depending on the damage, the connector may need soldering or the tuner board may need replacement.

The part is represented in blue below:

The tuner is not sold stand alone. It is part of the analog PWB. The analog PWB is held to the chassis by 4 screws.

Here a picture of the board:

The analog power board for this model is difficult to find. Here the part at $59.

In normal conditions the cable tech would not fix the TV. Explain clearly to the technician that this happened after the last tech from the company came.

Lets hope that the tech can fix it with a quick soldering job.

    All the best.

The soldering joints on board are broken, do not play with the connector, if you short it you van cause more damage.

I have 37LC50CB LG tv. When I turn on with new DTA remote control come up channel # 56-1 and cloud(nothing) on screen Then I...

Your DTA remote cannot turn on your LG TV. Find the red/white/yellow cable that was in the box with your DTA and connect it between the appropriate RCA outputs on the rear of the DTA and the corresponding RCA inputs on the rear panel of your TV. Disconnect the cable connected between your DTA and the antenna input of your TV. Be sure your DTA is on. Turn on your TV and select your DTA as the input source. You may have to press SET UP on your DTA remote to display the set up screen on your TV. Do a channel search and you should be all set.

Can a dta be used with cable antenna?

Most cable systems provide digital channels in a QAM format where Broadcast is in the 8VSB format. The RCA unit makes no mention if it is able to demodulate QAMs and should not be expected to. In addition, most cable QAMs are encrypted and need an addressable converter supplied by your cable system to view. A lot of cable systems provide local broadcast stations in the "Clear QAM" format and are not encrypted and viewable with digital televisions that support the QAM format, (most do). Most over the air broadcast DTA converters do not support the QAM format and will not demodulate the cable QAMs.

You must have these first.
1. Aerial antenna - buy this at your local home depot. Any aerial antenna available will be fine. Please see the sample picture.

2. Antenna wire (RG-6 cable wire) - connect one end of this wire to your aerial antenna and then the other end to your tv.

3. RG-6 connector - other end of the cable wire must have a this connector to attached it securely to your TV.

Some Aerial antenna has a cable wire packaged, this is much better than to assemble #2 and #3.
After the connection had been done, go to the menu on the tv, scroll down to antenna connection and then press auto tunning to saved all the viewable channel in your area.
Let me know if you need further assistance.
Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!
Thanks for using Fixya.

My tv is Philips Tv, and the screen is fuzzy and I can barely see the show i'm watching. I have no idea what to do!

Pl. check the input signal connection cable for shorting or open in the wiring,if the wiring is o.k than check antenna or the cable connection wire from the connector, also check by audio/video input weather picture is clear or not if the result remains same than there is fault inside your TV set which can be solved by some technical expert.

Fuzzy picture on tv 54in

Check your coaxial cable connection and inspect it wiggle it while the set is on if the problem clears replace the cable. Check to see if the male connector that sticks out the back of the set isint loose to the point where it moves when you touch it. If it does you need to have it looked at by a tech usually this problem can be solved with a little soldering but could get more complicated. Depending on the age of the set the fluid in the CRT's gets old and cloudy and light cant shine through it makeing your picture appear fuzzy. Your local tech should be able to change the oil in your set. Finally you could have some bad filter caps but I doubt it.

Just bought the Samsung 550 Plasma Hd Tv can you tell me if we just use a regular cable from the wall to the Tv will the picture quality be sort of off.. WE have an HM MI cable from the cable box to the TV...

unfortunately cable does not give you the best quality picture and "fuzziness ' is the reduced resolution being displayed on the tv.
the easy way to check the picture quality is to get a decent hd antenna and scan using it for free hdtv signals, if these are also fuzzy, on all channels then the tv has a problem but if it is only on a few lower resolution channels then its just the way it is until everyone is hd 720 or better.

gmm this is the how long is a piece of string without seeing it but I will get you to try these first.

check the antenna cable. to eliminate that.Connect another TV to that outlet using the cord that is connected to the TV with the problem.

Check cable is firmly in its socket, further still check this problem TV by using a cable from one of the TV;s that work. Always eliminate the simple things first before you have to do the unthinkable.. call a tech! It may be an internal board, but it is better to do these simple tests first.
