Question about Ryobi Garden

My throttle continues to stick. The motor races and it sounds like the engine is about to explode because of its speed. I opened up the handle and the spring seems out of place. When I squeeze the trigger it does not pull the cord. Any advice on how on how to fix this or do you know where a picture of the products insides are found where I can fix it according to the image.

    My riding mower will not start unless I put my hand over the breather and control the air flow and cuts off if I uncovere it completely

You should see some small wear marks inside the handle where the spring is supposed to rest. Also, check the throttle cable where it exits the plastic engine housing and goes to the throttle plate on the carburetor. Make sure it is connected correctly and not binding on anything on the way to the carburetor. There really aren't any diagrams or pictures available on the net of the insides of a Ryobi weed-trimmer's throttle trigger and spring.
When you squeeze the trigger the steel cable should move, the cable housing should NOT. If you look closely, you will maybe see how it works and all goes together. It is not that complicated.

Revs high when i change gear


Is it possible the clutch pedal is interfering with the throttle? Start the engine in neutral and allow it to idle. Press only the clutch pedal down and see if this increase the engine speed. If it does speed up the engine and slows back down when you release the clutch then somehow this operation is where your fault lies. If it doesn't alter the idle speed, then rev your engine and release the throttle to see if it returns to idle immediately. If it is slow to return to idle then your throttle cable could be sticking. This means when you change gear lifting off the throttle has little effect and depressing the clutch to change gear causes the engine to race as the throttle is still partially open.

How correct toro l/mower engine racing


Check the idling setting screw is not holding open the throttle butterfly common fault to fix if the engine races esp when no load is applied the idle throttlexpostion is to high thus the engine runs faster at idle turn the screw located on either the butterflyistelf so less screw threes is against the carb body this should start lowering the idle speed of the engine it should be around the 900 RPM approx for idling and top rev of 3500 at full throttle a rev counter is displaying a extra high rev count the it's the oil governed at fault or malfunctioning or sticking this will cause and engine to race badly to the point of engine destruction eventually
You may need to adjust the movement of the governing leavers etcetera best done by qualified servicing personnel a lawnmower mechanic etc

Sound like you might have a large vacuum leak allowing un-metered air into the engine, either that or your throttle body might be physically sticking open. Possibly a frayed throttle cable.

Rpm goes 5000 after running a few miles

i think you mean to post with foot off the the throttle, in say DRIVE
the engine races to 5000 RPM , total idle failure,
bad idle controls,
bad idle can happen on any car and can be caused by 2 things.
and is dangerous, (you can cut the key to stop any engine)

1: the throttle is really stuck. check the linkage end to end.
2: the IDLE control valve, ISC is stuck open. clean or replace it.

the cars ECU does all it can to prevent this, but can not help
if there are hard failures. ISC or throttle linkages failure.
there is a throttle return spring too, that can break (very rare)
the throttle bore can get so dirty that it can stick open.
on some cars, NO ENGINE STATE
Speed density engines, (MAP) will race for ANY VACUUM air leaks
to the intake plenum , (cracked hoses, etc)

Gas pedal gets stuck and keeps the car going cant stop without turning the car off


dont drive it. find the cause and fix it now.
Hot and cold engine or BOTH>?
1995 Tracker, no tranny , no 4wd , on engine options stated.
Exact high RPM in neutral, not stated...... 1500 is normal cold.
keeps going in Neutral. (nah , you have 5 ways to stop any car.
key, hand brake, foot brake and neutral. and with 4wd, 1 more neutral.
keep that in mind driving any car.
this car has up to 3 throttle cables that can stick. and more!

1: floor mats hit the pedal>? ala. Toyota style (lawsuits)
2: the three cables are, throttle. , cruise and A/T transmission kick down cable. if car is M/T and no cruise it has 1 cable.
so disconnect it, throttle fixed? (disconn,. 1 by 1, bingo?

no cure?, then its not the pedal , you meant just high idle.
yes, replace the cable or bad parts three.
ok say its not the cables.. (tests proved that)
the 95 came with 2 engines, 8valves and 16valves,
they work differently (8v love so race, 16v loves to stall)

1: ISC Stuck open, common.
2: 8v, any air leaks at all , will cause super high idle speeds.
3: throttle valve in the throttle body is stuckopen (gunk) or the return spring broken (very very rare the latter,in fact never heard of one breaking)
4: IAC (thermal idle control stuck open ,(my 97 was). and lots more.
5: on the 16v it takes 2 failures. to make high idle.
gross rich running engine (cold engine its normal) and any air leak
once hot the engine can not race unless there is huge overfueling
and an air leak.
6: the 8v has this device on the side of the throttle body.
called a dash pot. its just a fast idle vacuum servo.
if stuck open the engine will scream full time....
7: ECU stuck in limphome, can cause too high idle speeds.

then does the idle race hot or cold or both (engine temperatures)
if it races , then how fast?, RPM the dash tachometer tells you that.

it can be as simple as a 50cent hose cracked.
to a dead ISC. (idle speed control) IAC is thermal idle air controller.
the IAC must be closed on a hot engine,
if the the engine never gets hot,it will scream full time.

After starting my 98 metro 1 liter the idle increases in less than a few minutes until the engine is racing so fast I have to shut it down, help?


Generally speaking, the only way for the idle speed to increase is if extra air is getting past the throttle plate.
So that could include the throttle plate sticking open, the idle air control valve not closing, or a vac leak somewhere such as a hose or gasket.
If you can cover the throttle body with something and the engine still runs at a high speed there is a large vac leak somewhere.

Sounds like your carb needs the fuel/air mix adjusted..uses all the gas at high speed but has excess at low speeds...find your adjusting screw and at med throttle slowly screw it clockwise until the engine starts to sputter then back it out until it starts to sputter again then continue to do this until you reach ideal mix where it runs the best it can..then go slowly through the throttle up and down..when set..unjust your idle speed screw to your ideal idle speed..if this dies not fix ..carb will bed cleaned or rebuilt. Good luck.. Note always push or pull your throttle handle slowly to position avoids gas load up causing sputter and backfire.

Have a '95 Windstar. Was traveling about 45 mph today and the rpm gauge continued to stay where it was and the brakes barely stopped the car, while the engine continued to race as if still moving at 45...


There is more to the throttle then just the pedal. The cable at the other end by the throttle body could have been stuck or the throttle position sensor had an issue.

IDLE ENGINE SPEED RACING WHEN STOPPED


The idle speed is controlled via a servo motor and the engine management computer. It will idle fast when the engine is cold and first started.

If the idle speed is much higher than 1000RPM when the engine is warm, I would check for sticking throttle cables especially if you have added bar backs or bar risers. Check the throttle twist grip to make sure it is free and snaps back when released. These sometimes get sticky especially if the bike was dropped or dirt has accumulated under the throttle tube. Usually a high idle on a K1200RS is caused by some mechanical problem with the throttle or cruise control (if your bike has cruise)

My 2000 cavalier was at the stop sign and the engine for no reason started racing to 3000 rpms nearly throwing me into traffic! WTF?!!! the wrench service light just came on yesterday and stalled out once


Sounds like a throttle position sensor sticking in a very dangerous position. The throttle position sensor does exactly what it sounds like. Senses the throttle position and sends it to the injectors, if the position sensor is sticking open it is a very dangerous situation. Get your vehicle to a mechanic and have them scan the check engine light and besure that is the issue before going any further, but that is your most likely answer, Good Luck!
