when I attempt to run the clean washer cycle, it gives the rL fault code. Nothing is in the washer. I have owned the washer about two yrs and this is the first time trying to use this function.

Same problem. Nothing is in the washer, at least that we can see. Spins freely!

Same problem with my kenmore HE washer. Nothing inside the washer,

but when I start the washer cycle, it comes back with rL error code.

same problem. I have resorted to using "Brightest Whites" cycle with bleach to clean the problem. It is an intermittent issue that comes up every other time I attempt to use the cycle.

  • Anonymous May 17, 2009

Was there bleach in the compartment? The machine worked for me when I put in the correct amount of bleach and used the "clean washer" option but afterwards I noticed that there was still some bleach left in the machine. I tried to do a second "clean washer" to get rid of the bleach but it gave me the rl code possibly because there was not enough bleach to run the cycle. I decided to put in some whites and run the white cycle to hopefully get rid of the excess bleach.

What does an rL error mean?

The rl code is displayed when the control detects a load of clothes in the washer during the clean washer cycle.

This code should only come up when you're trying to run a clean cycle.

There can be two causes for this message if there are no clothes in the washer while you're running the clean washer cycle.

The most serious cause of the problem would be the spin bearing. Try and turn the basket by hand and see if you fill any restrictions. The basket can drab because of the bearing or because there are clothes between the spin basket and outer tub. Turn the basket by hand and see if you notice anything.

You can also try to remove the belt and run the clean cycle and see if the problem repeats. If the code doesn't repeat with the belt off and there is nothing between the tub and spin basket most likely the spin bearing will have to be replaced. The bearing is part of the rear half of the tub and will require a complete tear down to change.

If the message rl repeats with the belt off then the most likely cause of this problem is the machine control board.

Rl on the control panel

The "rl" (remove load) error code appears when you are running the "Clean Washericon1.png" cycle. You must not have a load of clothes in the washer during this cycle. Remove the clothes from the drum, and restart the cycle. The "Sud" error indicates that the detergent is over-sudsing. The Duet washer automatically combats this by reducing the amount of suds in the washing machine. Let the washer finish the suds-reduction steps. Use less detergent during the next wash cycle.

The rL error code during the clean cycle is likely caused by friction on the spin basket shaft since you indicate that you hear squeaking when the washer is spinning.

The squeaking is normally caused by a bad bearing in the rear tub shell.

I recommend that you have the washer diagnosed and repaired by a Sears service technician.

This type of problem will normally require an extensive tear down of the washer to repair.

It is not a problem that you can normally repair yourself.

Open the door & slowly rotate the spin basket to see if you can feel any kind of drag on the bearings.

If the bearings check good, the control board is sensing a load & will need to be replaced.

If the message rl repeats with the belt off then the most likely cause of this problem is the machine control board.

Got an error code rl. Took the clothes out, now know re-start procedures

Hello, the rl error code means that at the start of the cycle a load is detected inside the drum, and what you have to do is to remove the cloth from the drum and start the cycle again.
Thanks

Error code RL keeps occuring when washer is in CLEANER MODE

rl code is load detected in drum during cleaning washer cycle. Book answer is to remove clothes and start the cycle again. Here's everything that Whirpool doesn't want you to know or do to your machine. Don't blame me if you do anything that damages your product. This is a link to the on-line 'technician' only service manual for your washer.

Code "rL" means???

Code rL or F34 --> Load detected in machine at the beginning of the clean cycle. Push stop, remove clothes from washer & try again. Mine did this to me, even though there was nothing in the washer. I just tried it a second time & all is good again.
