Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

JVC AV-36D502. Our TV has been on the fritz. Sometimes when we try to turn it on the power light just blinks. We have figured out if we wait a minute we can unplug the TV plug it back in and then the TV will function normally. Although it does take the picture a little longer to come up. Still looks fine though. Any ideas what may be causing this?

U have tools like a soldering iron,a roll of solders and know basic soldering work?Yes.Resolders the FBT-(the flyback transformer) the big black block of plastic with a red wire with a cap hook to the CRT-(tv tube). On the side wall of the FBT.Have a Horizontal transistor in it side wall.Resolders that "H" transistor too. Will solved this highvoltages problems, should be stable the highvoltages to the tv and tv will work right away.

you probably have some sort of overheating or short on the internal board - is it still on warranty? if so they will fix at no charge - if not, a local repair shop should be able to correct the problem but it may cost as much as $150

Hello Jim O'Connell,
Welcome and thank you for using FixYa!
To answer your question: I would suggest having a television repair professional pull out the power supply board.
They will need to remove the board and check it for bad (cold) soldier joints, bad capacitors, and lastly, to use an Osilliscope to test the +5v and -5V transistors on the board. If they can't diagnose the board, they can use the part number to order and install a replacement for you. That should fix your issue.
Have a great day!

JVC AV-36D502: Input #3 doesn't work

Good day sir, its a different issue, about the capacitor, for as long as your replacement part is correct, it will work, now, there are several things you should check, the I/O device that controls the inputs of the TV, usually an IC, check your schematic diagram to trace the fault. check also the line from the input 3 to the controller IC on your diagram. Measure the voltage across the IC Vcc to ground if the IC is getting the right power, Low voltage can be cause by faulty capacitors, on the power supply line, or the IC itself is faulty, Circuit analysis and voltage measurements are needed to trace the faulty part. hope this helps thanks.
